It sounds eerily like the Cold War - and that is no mistake.

The "Long War" is the name Washington is using to rebrand the new world conflict, this time against terrorism.

Now the US military is revealing details of how it is planning to fight this very different type of war.
It is also preparing the public for a global conflict which it believes will dominate the next 20 years.

So as Centcom tries to control events in Iraq, he is also planning a strategy for "nothing less than the defeat of al-Qaeda across the world and its associated movements strung together by extremist ideology".

question, how extreme is an ideology that outlines a 20 year war against enemies that they know very little about. - the USA love it, they love the climate of fear.

they've always needed an enemy to fight, before islam it was the communists!

we're doomed. i tell ya!!

read confessions of an economic hitman by John Perkins to see how these cunts turn decent country like Venizuela to massive debt. See how they do it. The imperial game is what we used to do back in the day. well i fucking didnt but now they copied it. totally fuked over Venizuela big time.

Through more than fifty years of cease-fire, the North Korean government has promoted a military-centered culture on the grounds that war with the United States is imminent.

I think given the US's ongoing foreign policy that this is probably an entirely justifiable standpoint :)

do the powers that be in the us actually believe this "global conflict" could last 20 years, or do they just hope it will?

considering the war on terror was engineered by a group of neo-cons with their own agenda, what cause do we have to believe that it'll continue for too much longer once they're out of office?

and how about jack straw poncing around with condoleeza the other week - never have i heard a bigger load of sanctimonious self-gratifying propeganda given status as a 'professors lecture in philosophy' ! we see a star-struck jack transfixed in adoration as that conniving sl*t tells us about the merits of 'liberal democracy' in iraq - made me wanna PUKE.

a 20 year war...

I was reading the economist on the train the other day, and raised an eyebrow to somthing that went a bit like -

"Withing the next 20 years China will surpass the USA as the worlds economic superpower"

No one really mentions China unless its about CO2 emmisions, or somthing like that, but, to me, that simply read:

Economic Supremacy = Money = Power

In 20 years, quite possibly itll be somone else calling the shots?

not to get all godwins law about it but whoever came up with "long war" should have probably come up with something a little further from "endless war"
anyone read Philip Roth's "Plot against America"? its a bit of a weird one. the authors childhood memoirs written in a world where an isolationist hitler- supporting Lindburgh took over from Roosevelt in 1940.
