A friend of mine's USB pen drive has stopped working.
It just comes up as "Removable Disk. F:" in XP..
when I double click on it, it just says "please insert a disk into drive F:"
Anyone got any ideas on how I could retrieve data from it? It has some important data on which wasn't backed up before it went wrong...
have you tried it on a different computer? might be the PC not the drive.
if not, then probably you can't get the data off, since the partition information might be screwed.
www.handyrecovery.com might work, dunno though, never tried it on a pendrive. Can't see why not, though.

you can pay a dta recovery company to try tp get the data off. My mate used Flash Guardian (http://www.flashguardian.com/hdd.php), cost £100 but got his accounts back. phew.
do they get data off flash drives?
thought you could only do data recovery on physical disks?

Flash memory is physical, so teoretically it is possible.
I don't know if anybody does that, cause most often people don't have anything important on flash drives.
You can try image rescue 2 or sthg similar.

Told you. It should be even easier than with hard drives, because if the falsh mem hasn't been litterally fried it's untouched, and sthg else must have gone wrong.
Good luck with that recovery !!
