Yo. Long time no post!
I think that by some circumstantial distortion he happened to release a song called "freedom" on the same week the berlin wall came down. he went platinum.

hahaha.. rolling on the floor!lol
as i stated before i always hated hasselhoff and knight rider, i remember a really scary thing about him though. he once did a german version of one of his 'hits' and the video was just pure horror: hasselhoff standing on a beach, with wind flattering his chemise and all, singing, no screaming against the waves in german and i'm quite sure he didn't even know what he sang.
Oliver Kalkofe did a brilliant adaption of that once.:)

well, "looking for freedom" was actually a 60s cover i think. i told it before but i have to tell this story again: during the reunification happiness ceremonies, he was rocking in a crane cabin high above the sea of german flags, wearing a leather jacket with dozens of lamps thru which waves were flowing... and he was singing "looking for freedom"... incredible sight... i'd pay for the recording! lol
also don't forget that hasselhoff was produced by the same gifted producer, jack white, who also made engelbert humperdinck famous, especially in germany i guess... ;)

really? hmm, i'm sure it was something like that - maybe i can be arsed to dig out the video and look it up. anyway scary enough that i remember anything hasselhoffish - traumatic experiences you know.
what have you got against kalkofe? he's given me hours of pure laughter and it's kind of sad that he doesn't do his show anymore - looks like the bad guys won.

well is he a good guy? i always found it much more funny to suddenly find tv trash myself rather than watch a dedicated program where you know what will happen. also i never found his presentation too funny, what he does really lives on the trash others create. i.e. he needs no own ideas as a comedian like harald schmidt for example. in fact he's got a very easy job that made him very famous.
also i think it's ridiculous that the tv stations first serve the trash, then "for the critical minded" they also serve the show that makes fun of their own programs. that's economic, isn't it? produce once, show (earn) twice. so he's part of the same machinery and he just relies on what others deliver. that's why i'm not such a fan of his.
but i love trash - pure trash! ;)

anyway, i think hasselhoff's other big hit besides "freedom" was "crazy for you". or was it already mentioned? i don't think he did "du" which was maffays first hit single in 1971 or so. maffay hates it, by the way. no real rock! lol
jukka
27th January 2003, 16:14
@c.s.: it wasn't david hasselhoff who sung "du"........the voice was just put over by oliver kalkhofe !!!

I feel born anew when the soft petals of this music brush my cheeks. From the first guitar lick to the final cowbell, this album refreshes me from foot to neck, absorbing all the troubles of my day and bringing me to a higher level of consciousness. Hasselhoff's voice echoes off the walls of my holding cell, filling every corner with the sounds of an outboard motor wounding four donkeys. I tremble with delight when "Crazy For You" reminds me of my days as a guard for the Duke Blue Devils, and the eternal ballad "Wir Zwei Allein" brings me to tears over memories of an encounter with Wendy Malick of "Just Shoot Me" fame, which I would rather not get into.
The song "Hot Shot City" is particularly good.

jukka: ok, then compare a parody to an original video showing peter maffay - i don't think anything can beat the original... :) also i already sampled musikantenstadl's caroline reiber when kalkofe wasn't around or at least not to my knowledge. "und ich kann nur sagen: herz-lich-will-komm-en" with a rhythm in it, kind of grooveless rap, hehe... lol

Everytime I get sent this, I can't help but smile, its superb - surely the Hasselhof camp are playing this up - I hope so for his sake...
As to how does Hasselhof get to no1 in Germany, that can only be explained by the fact that for every cool techno loving german, there must be 10 people like my old housemate - who still listens only to 80s pop music, she's only 24 too, that a really young age to get stuck* musically.
*Getting stuck is one of the first signs of aging, when you stop buying new music and steadfastly maintain that only the music you know is any good. Inability with technology follows shortly after.

ten against one. i fear it's more like hundreds of them against one.

well - its 8pm and I just finished reading all the 500+ reviews... I think the " jukebox rolled in body hair" may well be of biblical importance... Man - who would have thought that techno and Hasslehof tread a lot of the same intellectual ground

I had the idea first time I saw "michael" driving in Kit... this man is something special! And look how he handle the electronic gear inside that car! Like he hasn´t been doing anything else his whole life!??
Nearly as good as "back to the future" - wow, I was so impressed about THAT Delorian - that I said to myself "I must make myself a radiocontrolled car when I grow up! This is too wicked!"
How the fuck do you make a Flux-capasitor!???
Unfortunately I could only turn back to my lego and make the dream come true.

In the early 80s Knight Rider star David
Hasselhoff visited South Africa, as the show
was a huge hit there.
Obsessed with getting close to his fans and a
hatred of "political bullshit", he boarded a
segregated (blacks only) bus.
When warned not to, he replied:
"Hasselhoff can't go on that bus, but
Michael Knight can!"
