we'll just have to start eating non-infected animals, like elephants or wasps. there's a wide selection of meats available, no need to panic.

it isnt eating meat that's bad. Its the way we as a race or culture have removed ourselves so far away from the process of obtaining it properly and with respect.
It now comes in a polystyrene container, and is luminous red/whatever. Many kids have no idea what animal a certain food comes from, nevermind what cut it is.
Its this abandonment of first-hand knowledge, experience and understanding that leads to malpractice in the food industry, and our own weaker bodies and minds to deal with life as it aught to be lead.
For example, it can lead to a semi cult for vegitarianism. hehehe.

@niknak
and that is exactly what we should be doing.
We would be fitter.
We would eat some meat but much less (exactly what our system is designed for)
We would appreciate if not revere the animal in question, and understand it properly, and the fact that YOU PERSONALLY have taken a life.
There would little or no waste.
The environment would be less fucked-about-with.
Squirrel kebab anyone?

Yup. Could argue the same point with eggs and dairy produce too. Have you ever tastes unpasteurised milk, or an egg that was laid in the morning in your own garden? Mmm :)
The easiest way to dramatically cut the risk of birdflu (and perhaps number of eventual deaths) would be to stop eating poultry. That's no going to happen though, because the majority of people couldn't be bothered to make what is essentially a very small choice about what they eat.

i don't think people should give up meat, but i reckon people should atleast wake up a little and realise what shit meat they are eating.
i don't eat meat because i disagree with the meat industry, i won't bore people - as i've gone on enough about that on this board.
BSE is a classic case of the wrongness in the meat industry, and how profit makes people in business blind.

"Phytophthora infestans is a water mould, that causes the serious disease of the potato, late blight or potato blight. (Early blight, caused by Alternaria solani, is also often called potato blight). This disease was a major culprit in the causation of the 1847 Irish potato famine and also the Highland potato famine. The organism can also infect tomatoes and some other members of the Solanaceae."
veg is safe eh? Tell that to the irish.
I try and buy my meat from a quality butchers. Supermarket steak? no ta.

that disease only effects potato tho, it destroyed the potato crops - it's not like bird flu, or bse which is able be passed onto humans, or could possibly.
but point taken.
good good is safe, meat, veg, fruit the whole lot. - shit produced food, for mass consumption, longer shelf life is rubbish and bad.

there were guys hunting pidgeon on the BBC morning news yesterday.. they'd be a pretty safe bet to start hunting if it wern't for bird flu, we could all go out in urban fatigues with air riffles and loafs of bread.

When I went vegetarian I did feel lighter for some time. I'm contemplating have a period of abstinence from meat. I've recently successfully cut out all crappy crisps and chocolate bars - seriously upped my fresh fruit and veg intake. But still feel that I need to detox...
Dunno though I do like a nice bit of meat though. I've been buying organic almost all the time since getting back onto meat... I've just got it into my head it's better to buy less good meat, than oodles of shit stuff.

fresh meat is fantastic, gives you the energy to get through the cold winter. just leave out on the supermarket poo and get a good steak or something every now and then instead.
meat is also a very reliable art source. check this 'bratwurst installation' i did back then in awe of my homebase..

I think John Lennon did the veggy stuff.
Or maybe eating-extremely-less method.
He said it kinda makes him high.
Budda told his students that it's better not to eat after lunch time 12PM.
In Thai, there are buddists who only eats once a day.
I was looking at that TV program, and I think they don't allow meat not just because of killing
but also deep connection with blood.
Maybe there is some effect between human + taste of blood.
