Ah, illegal parties. I like them...Luckily London is big enough of free spaces I think

ah, ian...thought u meant typo as in mistake. anyhoot, its eurostyle, my fave all around font.
anyhow, there is a complete lack of decent all night venues in london, so we are using a place that has been throwing parties about once a month for the past couple of years.
i like the venue. they are gonna let us in a couple of days early, so we can completely transform the place. the drinks will be cheap - £1.50 (we are even gonna have jaegar and fun cocktails on the bar). and we can run past 6am, so we can turn the whole party into a chillout, so no one has to find a place to go afterwards. circa is playing the afterparty, and we are having a bit of an open decks policy at it as well. it should be a damn good party.

@Tamas!! Did you hear that??
If those freaks in germany won´t come up with a date for Sativae-night at Tresor we should think about this instead, huh??

Wicked line-up karitek, I'll be there methinks. Last subhead thing I saw was at a crazy abandoned office near angel I think, years ago. Von Trapp Family were highly amusing. My birthday is in March so good timing ; )
karitek
24th January 2003, 15:36
wicked!! yeah, it wont be hard to find out where it is. just call the infoline. your best bet is in a couple of weeks just to order a ticket online at info@kookslondon.com (it isnt set up to do that yet) and i will email you a map.
@ ruben - a kook is someone a bit nutty or crazy, but in a funny way. we got the name from a david bowie song 'kooks' that was sorta the sound track for the road trips where we first planned the party. we plan on playing it at the end of every party as a transition into the after party.
the lyrics are quite good (its on hunky dory).
will you stay in our lovers' story
if you stay you wont be sorry
'cause we believe in you
soon you'll grow so take a chance
with a couple of kooks
hung up on romancing
we bought a lot of things to keep you warm and dry
and a funny old crib on which the paint wont dry
i bought you a pair of shoes
a trumpet you can blow
and a book of rules
on what to say to people when the pick on you
'cause if you stay with us you're gonna be pretty
kookie too
and if you ever have to go to school
remember how they messed up this old fool
dont pick fights with the bullets or the cads
'cause i'm not much cop at punching other people's dads
and if the homework brings you down
then we'll throw it on the fire
and take the car downtown.

What a Fantastic party – really thoroughly enjoyable on a number of fronts. Great venue, big thanks to Kari and Phil and all for putting in so much effort to transform the place, it was really wikked and puts to shame my decorating efforts for Filth. I especially liked the chillout area with comfy mattresses to lounge about on, ‘specially seeing as I was still out from the previous night and had to spend a few moments catching my breath.
Fantastic rig, so many times the rig, especially in clubs these days are just dogshit, either just rubbish, badly maintained, or set up wrong, or all three. But this was the daddy, if anyone is going to anything at this place – then you are in for a treat. The rig itself wasn’t massive in terms of number and size of speakers, but it boasted a staggering 30K of power, plenty of headroom to fill the room with a deep authorative sound that captured everything in perfect clarity, but didn't seem to need to crank up the volume to get it full-on in your face audio assault...
Then there was the music itself which was brilliant, loads and loads of variety and all top quality, everything from hip-hop, drum and bass, and even a bit of old hardcore from Nogutskik, the boys from Essex. Si Begg giving us his unique noodled up chopped up techno/electro. Tube Jerk live set was brilliant, and great to be able to listen to it over the decent system after hearing it at the Seed Records party. Then there was Circa (aka: Jason Leach and Sir Kit, doing their shouty indie grunge/punk/ragga techno thang (I dunno what it is - but its good) – Finally Subhead given us their own unique audio terrorism rounded of what was simply a top night. of the highest quality. All yo who missed it, yer missed an absolute blinder...
Good to meet Yer Maw and all the Scottish posse, who typically seemed to be the most rowdy when the music finished at the end (still need to make that trip up to Scotchland... )
Sadly couldn’t stick around for the after party, was a bit beat and needed to go home and get some sleep…

yeah was a wicked party, many thanx phil and kari for makin it happen....
karitek
25th March 2003, 11:01
yeah, glad you guys enjoyed. there ended up being no after party (which was probably a good thing since we were so knackered) coz someone took home the dj mixer too early!
i should show you photos of that place when we got in there on tuesday morning. it had been partied in for 3 years without being cleaned up. it took us all week, working 12+ hours a day to transform it to the right look for kooks. needless to say. i'm exhausted.
we are working on sorting out the next one. should be in september and we plan on doing them as one offs 2 or 3 times a year. we are looking for a new venue coz we had too many complaints of people not finding the place and wandering all around london bridge.
nice to see y'all out. sorry i wasnt more social, but was very busy and stressed out all night. but, i had a great time - we created the exact vibe that we wanted at the party, and the music was top quality.

27th March 2003, 13:42
yeah what a great party there kari! had a class time. the venue looked great too and was quite a good size of place as well, not too big. we ended up going into the pub round the corner and this guy from aberdeen (typical) said he knew where the place was but ended up giving us directions to the middle of nowhere. luckily grobelar was walkin by and we just got him round. good to meet you and cheers man, fuck knows where we would have ended up if we followed that cunts directions.
tube jerk fantastic as always and subhead were great too. i knew si begg was going to be good but i was quite surprised at how impressive his set was. that man really is the master of the kaos pad.
Sunday afternoon was spent travelling the length of london trying to find buckfast, which luckily we did. moan the scots abroad!
best time ive had in fucking ages, cheers kari and phil for giving us an excuse to party in london! oh and i think ill definately be keeping september in mind....
