well i sopose that cristian is just messing around with some things. the reason i say this is because i hit home and i came to this centered page, which really threw me off.but i guess its just being fooled around with:)anyways i hope im not the only one..heheh:)

yep - late last night (european time) i was indeed fuckin with the width , doing some cosmetic changes - the board guy has shrunk and I nested a couple of tables , like some kind of insane chicken.

Please refresh your cache's cos otherwise it wont display properly...

a little trick: place this in the head with the other meta tags:

<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">

;)

yup - checked that - it seems its been in there the whole time , along with other no-cache headers.... seems for the moment that everyone who has been here before yesterday needs to CTRL-Click or Right Click on the GIF of the Board Guy and choose , Reload image... to definitely be using the correct proportioned header.. I'll look into fixing it a bit better later on - just needs some file renaming probably... its nice though - I prefer the layout - takes about 10 minutes to get used to it , but it seems more balanced... and now we have space down the sides for some possible side-frame action - like that shout box I promised way back , and perhaps a directory of the FTP or any other ideas anyone may have!

inventions are made of failures!

what about putting up the complete available mosquito/RRRR/no-future backcat, each with a tiny pic and a snippet of sound in the now available space (on one side maybe and the shoutbox on the other)? a bit of advertisement wouldn't be bad would it? and people just react more on pics than on a tiny text. just an idea. i'm sure the people frem red design would make it quality.

CV
21st January 2003, 13:27
yep -thats an idea - but its a lot of coding! - and Red Design are busy on other things , so it would be me doing the programming ... and also , don't you think it would look very cluttered with so many images down one side of the page?

amble
21st January 2003, 13:37
that's a bit tricky yes. i'd suggest keeping the images small of course. and you could keep them black/green and only make them get coloured on mouse-over so that it wouldn't be so much of a jump-in-the face.

cristian have you edited the background colour as well? i see a thin blured line around the erutufon-image on top of the page and that also appears a little lighter to me. i don't think i've recognized this before.

no - its just your eyes - you are evolving - sight beyond sight

no - it is there - like a faint radiation leak .... I have my < img > border = "0" but feck knows why it can still be seen - is it something to do with my crop or what ?

amble
21st January 2003, 15:24
that's a little weird problem i also had to struggle with some time ago. i guess it has something to do with using different software to work on your stuff , e.g. adobe's photoshop and macromedia's dreamweaver. i think they work out the colours slightly different although you choose the same colour code - but that is only a guess, maybe someone knows more?

i wouldn't worry so much about it though - since everyone has a different monitor with different colour configuration set up you can't really do very much about it. some visitors might not even see it now (if they have set up a lower contrast for instance).

geek answer:

the border's in the image itself... probably had antialiasing or feathering turned on when you selected the area for cropping.

also the bgcolor in the page is slightly different to the background colour in the gif. make it transparent and the problem's solved.

cheers
neil.

the colour difference we can see now the 'guy on the fone' has shrunk, is because u shrunk the 'guy on the fone's' bkgd along with him.

if u work with the orginal....
magic wand the bkgd,
inverse the selection,
copy the 'man on the fone' image to another layer...
rescale 'the man on the fone' copy in that layer...
go back to the orig. layer....
select the bkgd, inverse selection,
remove the bigger dude,
colour the hole to match the bkgd,

and finally goto image/canvas size [& crop the image there to make it the size u want], then the bkgd won't change colour.

um....did i over-complicate here?

if u shrink the entire image - the colour density changes...
if u shrink only the man, and change the canvas size, the bkgd stays the same colour.

the captain is correct - but even if u save as a transparent gif, u may still see your 'radiation leak'

the other alternative is to discard the current wrongly coloured bkgd layer, and place a new bkgd with the colour #8f8e72, before you optimise the image.

Yep - i think i did do that - iam aware of colour averaging doing scale downs - thats why it took me so long to scale it in the first place, as ii lost the original EPS Ed a Red Design made for me.... I`ll try canvas size crop , but i`nm sure the background colours do match - its really quite tedious - but yes , the QUICK REPLY box rules ... and Mux - yes I can still install the shout box - its a question of where and whether now... theres actually a pretty good shoutbox/live chat one now , but the server drain can get a bit silly , i read - whos up for a chat box? - i`m not sure myself , think its nice as it is..

dunno about the shoutbox really, another forum I know introduced something like that with a lot of hoopla user-side, 2 weeks later it had been abandoned... for real-time chat, there's irc, and as far as I' m aware there is a #erutufon channel somewhere out there...

+++++ quick reply box

what's a shoutbox?

i use uboot.com community chat to chat to folk..i go there to practise my german, which is now very good - but of course, i'd be too shy to speak it out loud!

um...the secret with the gif, is to magic wand select the bkgd, and delete it ..so it becomes transparent ( u see checked bkgd with PS)
then, optimise as a gif - make sure transparent box is ticked, and in the matte - select 'other' make the colour to 8f8e72, and save the gif...then, the fuzzy white in the first transparent gif i made is replaced with the colour 8f8e72, and u have the image u want.
