i'm not quite sure i understand how this is analog while the signal path going to it is digital... does it go d->a then through the filter then a->d again? would this actually be any assistance to the sound or be any better than any other good plugin?

yes there are but my pci slots are more than filled at the moment...
a/d-d/a - i guess the difference is that there's no dsp but hardware filters inside the metal box, so it's indeed different from plugins i guess. but will it really sound different or is it just a placebo for hardware fanatics ? lol

i think the only way it would sound better is if it had really really good a/d d/a converters. i haven't seen the price tag on this, but i imagine it costs much less than a really good a/d d/a converter... so i have a hunch that your placebo theory may be more than a theory. i mean, yes... every filter sounds different just because of the architecure of it, but is it going to be a huge difference between a straight digital dsp filter or a d/a ->analog filter-> a/d? does it actually give that "analog warmth" or just a good interpretation of it. it just doesn't seem logical to me.

yeah but i'm afraid it won't expand the number of irqs... i'm at the limit with soundcard, tv-card, 2 network cards, graphics card (agp of course but it sometimes shares an irq i think) and 5-10 usb devices (3-4 gamecontrollers, webcam, usb audio, usb midi, dongle, scanner...) ;)

time will tell. i heard that some analogue emulations could not be identified even by 'analogue warmth'-fans, so... my music is cold as ice anyway and it is meant to be ! lol

hmm as i already have 1.4 so the next step would have to be bigger for me, i'd say at least 2.5. also it might be interesting to wait for amd's 64bit hammer or intel's 3 ghz with hyperthreading.
