right. i've got a load of records (about 1/2 my collection) i'm going to try and sell on ebay to finance a return to oz and generally to clear out stuff i don't really want anymore.
So i'm wondering- rather than the crapshoot of just sticking stuff on ebay in the hope that someone randomly is looking for it- is there anyway of connecting ebay and discogs so stuff thats on people's wishlists gets seen without me having to solicit every single sale?
or is there a similar wishlist thing on ebay that people actually use?
any hints on how to make some decent money out of this rather than just spending the next two weeks sticking stamps on mailers for 99p a time would be much appreciated. thanks.

well, you can go through the records that you are trying to sell and and bring them up on discogs. from there you can see who owns it and who has it on their wish list. so for instance, if you bring up cristian's station 55 you can see that X amount of people own it, and X amount of people want it. from there you can email every person that wants it and let them know that you are selling it.
I hope that helps.
if not, I suggest PMing max (animal night train) who is a discogs mod, as I am sure he can help you out more.

Well, you can put all your rekkids online and then contact everyone with the same link to your list of records, but if you have a large batch of vinyl to sell, that might turn people off as well (if they're only after one particular 12")

yep. i was trying to avoid those sorts of things. just want to sell stuff to people who want it. a lot of what i'm selling is very very crap, but based on past sales that may be no obstacle.

on second thoughts- i've just discovered the "sell" function on discogs. does this yield results? does it automate messages to people who have it on their wishlist cos again, I don't want to be pestering people one-to-one.

It don't send no messages, and discogs collects a percentage. I've marked some vinyl as 'for sale', no sales so far.

Specific ebay auction links to specific users is the most 'effective' method.

If you bunch your ebay auctions and sell like with like at the same time there is more chance of people buying a couple to save on shipping.

Listing a pile of unrelated crap will put off serious buyers who won't have time to sift through all the stuff they are not interested in.

So I would sell all the, very hard techno say, in one week and then move on to other types of music.

If you sell them in lots of five with one or two decent ones and two or three not great ones you can shift them faster.

Don't put much up now, either. Wait until the end of january if you can.

ebay seems to have gone downhill a bit. now what seems to happen is you get loads of watchers, all with there snipe programs set to a particularly low bid- then all but one pm'ing you afterwards to complain that they didn't get the item and have you got any more of the same. i remember when it was all high rollers. If anyone wants a JSBX remix album its going pretty cheap in an hour. tons of other crap as well. user thomashooked
