Very little coverage of this news story anywhere - so here it is:

Following the January 5 suicide attacks, which killed over twenty people in Tel Aviv, Ariel Sharon's spokesman, Raanan Gissin, announced that Israel would shut down three Palestinian universities, possibly including Bir Zeit, the most prestigious in the West Bank, and academic home to internationally-known Palestinians such as Hanan Ashrawi, and Nablus' Al-Najah University, the largest in the West Bank. This announcement, although it represents yet another escalation of Israel's collective punishment and sustained effort to destroy Palestinian civil society, failed to arouse international concern or attention, and has been almost ignored by the media.

Israel's academic freedom defended, while Palestine's is destroyed

again, why all of this focus on israel and palestine? don't we have our own problems? i come to this board for friendly interaction with like minded people, not to hear the same one sided reports of israeli "injustices" etc. I AM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT ALL OF THIS SHIT. This is not a forum for politics or humanitarianism.

i'd say it is already our own problem or not ?

the same one sided reports of israeli "injustices"

"Following the January 5 suicide attacks, which killed over twenty people in Tel Aviv" - one-sided ?

This is not a forum for politics or humanitarianism.

how about making this question a poll ?

don't you think we hear enough 'one sided reports of palestinian terrorism' elsewhere?

welcome to the world.

you can't shut yourself off from 'all this shit'.

of course injustice is "everyones problem" i am just saying - aren't you people sick enough of hearing about all of this in your daily lives? why bring it here?

i am not just closing my eyes to the problems in general, but when i go surfing the electronic music boards, the LAST thing i want to read about is israel and palestine or india and pakistan or the usa vs. everybody else.

as an american, that is the first and only thing people want to talk about when the meet you. everyone wants to blame americans for supporting israel and not palestine. for attacking iraq and not attacking north korea.

everybody always say "why does america think it has to police the world?" then when wetake a diplomatic approach (I/E pyongyang) we are called hypocrites and cowards.

maybe i am just having mens P.M.S., but imagine you were an american abroad and everytime you met someone new, they wanted to "politely bring your attention to" their opinions and theories about why your country is made up of "war mongers".

it is tempting to tell people i am canadian, so we can have a pleasant conversation about ice hockey or something at least....

i'd say it is already our own problem or not ?

yes, that's our problem... that's the problem of the UN because the UN created the State of Israel...

you can't shut yourself off from 'all this shit'

That's right, you can close you eyes on it but keeping the silence is agreeing...

about the "one sided reports" :
I must say it's impossible to be totally impartial on this subject because the only informations we become are coming from the medias and they're making their own selection... But will be someone living there more impartial ? I don't think so...

may be true, but i think no-one offended you here as an american. and the discussion is not on because you are here as an american.

if you have enough of these discussions ignore threads like this. i don't see a problem for this board. but i understand your situation as an american.

just a question: sharon says arafat and his police have to find the terrorists and at the same time sharon destroys palestinian police departments. where is the logic??

logic and politics is like bread and margarine - doesn't really fit together.

it's kind of sad, you hear all this bullshit nearly every day: new suicide bombings, new counter-attacks; it just never stops. i realize that i blunt down on this which makes me angry cos i want to care about it. it's just so helpless. i doubt that they will ever hear anyones advice, neither israelis nor palestinians. so what gonna do, what can we do? swallow the evening meal and switch the channel??

perhaps u could write a letter to the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/), saying as much. but i'm sorry u are offended by my news posts today.

"i am not just closing my eyes to the problems in general, but when i go surfing the electronic music boards, the LAST thing i want to read about is israel and palestine or india and pakistan or the usa vs. everybody else. "

then simply don't read about it.
as for the people who are posting this kind of stuff, I think they are doing the right thing - people should know about what's happening.

"as an american, that is the first and only thing people want to talk about when the meet you. everyone wants to blame americans for supporting israel and not palestine. for attacking iraq and not attacking north korea. "

then simply say that just because you live in a region of the world often referred to as america, you do not necessarily share the same opinions about stuff as the government in america does.
if someone can't understand that, then in all probability they aren't worth the time talking to.

peace out.
