yeah, so i have now officially relocated to nyc. i've got a cool apartment in brooklyn, and have just started the job search (and welcome any advice - its a bit daunting!).
it is good to be back, just a bit immediately overwhelming. anyhow, after 2 months of travelling around guatemala and honduras, being subjected to latin american pop (and i thought most western pop was painful!), i am desperately wanting to hear some techno.
herbert is coming in a month, which is a nice treat. but, i kinda want to check out some of the more local talent. can anyone recommend some nyc local talent that i should check out (outside of the obvious sonic groove posse)? are there any djs/producers making the no-future style techno in nyc since bill youngman and landstrumm relocated?

i used to live in the city.check out whole foods market and all other health food stores, they are always hiring.i dont know if your looking for a job like this, or a real job but its just something i now anyone could get and they pay all right too.

thanks, emma :)
tint - yeah, i will definitley check out the food market stuff. i am looking for a 'real' job, but i think it is going to take a while, just because i am very undecided about what career or type of job i want.
i kinda went into my last 'career' choice (graphic and web design) without thinking it through enough - it was easy to get a job in, i could do it, and it paid alright. it never hit me that i would have to spend ALL my time in front of a computer and be bored shitless.
So, this time i want to make a more eduated decision, which means it'll take time. i am meeting with a career counselor (at my old uni) next week and plan on setting up some interviews with alumni in fields i am interested in (music, education and interior design) and get an idea if working in those fields is really for me. i dont want to rush into anything, especially since the main reason i left the life i loved in england was coz of unhappiness on the job.

good to have you back!
I am on the job hunt as well so I know what you are going through.
good luck with that.

I might be able to come up for that with one of my friends.

sheridan - herbert is playing on Feb 11, i think, at the APT. i went there last night to hear some housey electro stuff for free (as most stuff in nyc seems to be).
it was a bit posh for my taste - my friends and i were the only ones dancing for most of the nite, so much so that this guy came up to me to tell us we were the 'life of the party' (whatever he meant by that). ironically he said this to me when we were all just standing there staring at each other, deciding to leave, but oh well.
i am interested in seeing what the crowd is like for herbert. from what my friends say, most places in nyc arent gonna be the uppity...hopefully...

Welcome back Kari, hope you had a good un travelling around, good luck in NYC, in some ways I'm jealous, I get bored stuck in the UK and NYC seemed really cool when I visited, but the grass is always greener... and the music is never darker... but hey ho...

Check out Tronic Treatment- Monday nights at Baktun (sp?) -
(good music from what I recall).
I believe Dinky does a Friday night at Drinkland as well (although, that might have just ended- so- sorry if this notice is in vain).
Look out for Magda's name on any lineup- I can't recommend her more highly.
I always have a blast when in NYC- Congrats on a safe landing-
Have fun!

yeah, thanks...
i've got no dough to see mills, and have already seen him numerous times this year anyhow. magda is playing constantly and i have only heard good things so i think i'll check her out this tuesday. there are about a million bar nights in nyc, but i hear most of them are crap, but luckily most of them are free.

hey karrie, good to hear u r safe and sound.
i correspond with a guy in NYC called Jason who goes under the name Donna Summer (i know, a bit of a strange name...) and he does kind of DJ Rupture style stuff and also does a radio show too. I'm sure he knows about some good nights.
I will PM you his email.

@cut out
Is this the guy who runs or releases on the Cockrockdisco label? If so, I have heard him last year in Frankfurt. First I thought it was really Donna Summer when I read the flyer, but he’s also good.
A bit strange sound, but interesting nevertheless.

yeah, that's him - he was going to remix my track 'scum' off nest 5 but it all fell through a bit cos I was so slack at getting him the bits!
he's got a cool approach to music though - his radio show plays electro-scuzz, brainmashrave, death metal and classic disco - with the odd bit of AOR too.
the guy's even sampled Pat Benetar on one of his tracks.
