hmm, maybe nucular power isnt such a great idea if we cant even stop a big stockpile of highly volatile fuel from blowing up.

That is a totally spurious statement, what have the two got to do with each other...

A bit like saying that if we can't stop competitors in Three Day Eventing from dying, then we'd better ban motor racing.

Or that after banning smoking, that putting limits on drinks in pubs is the next logical step... :)

i think they do have a lot do do with each other. I support expanding nucular energy, but on the basis that we would have some decent checks in place so the thing doesnt blow up. Obviously we are still crap.

This is what happens when the work experience youth locks up ...

NC locking up is just not as hard as it used to be.

We are crap at what? What you are saying is totally spurious, it's completely impossible and utterly useless to try and compare the safety measures of the two industries.

Just because a train crashes, does that mean the airlines are crap?

No...

Well, i think it is when your talking about large scale industry. Safety is paramount, and any deviation whatsoever is unacceptable. Transport is different, some accidents are just that.

OK?

I think there is a perfectly valid point in there.. which is "once things get established, people get lazy". All the experts viewed this explosion as a 'freak accident' that no one could have predicted...

Whereas with Nuclear the 'minor' incidents are fucking major.. it's not just a bit of oil spilt on the floor is it. Add private shareholders into that mix and it's fucking doomy.

I don't think Transport is actually any different really, it's still human error and laziness which generally leads to accidents. But that is human nature, we all tend to get lazy with certain aspects of our jobs and accidents will always happen. Any person who thinks technology can solve that basic human trait is blind.

I think the point is there are certain things where the risk outweighs the advantages. Buses are very useful despite the fact they hit people now and then and mangle them.

nah, if you cant significantly rule out human error when designing a nucular power plant then its probably best not to bother. I will quite happily take my risks on the bus though.

Oh yeah.

My point was that there was a point in my point.
