right, there's been a spate of anti-collider posts over the past week
id like to think they all got raw digits for christmas but i doubt it..
i want to clarify our position as admins of this board.
its not mandatory by any means to like super_collider, vogel, lidell, mosquito, rrr, or even electronic music to post here. but as this is a community based around those artists, then if you are going to criticise them heavily then you will probably find some strong disagreement comes your way from me, or cristian or other message board crew.
we encourage debate and very rarely remove posts / threads or ban people. but cris and i will both say what we think as admins and as the band and i think that's fair enough, we are human after all.
we also dont tolerate slagging of any kind - of artists, even the ones we privately hate, between boarders...just a general policy. it might seem dull and at times we miss it but i think it helps to avoid persecution which is really easy in an anonymous place like this
im sorry if any of you think i have been over the top in my responses, but thats just the kind of gal i am.
phil, orang utan, phaedrus, shaun-ridge - you are all welcome to post here, of course and i hope if you do we can get to know each other in better circumstances.

from my own 'listener' point of view, i find that music has such a subjective scale of appreciation, that it's unreasonable to expect others to like/agree with the music music which i choose to listen to at any given time. However, as we don't all inhabit the same air-space, or vibrate to the same frequency, it's only to be expected that some people will have a 'violent' reaction to some musical creations.
when we do find ourselves affected negatively by the musical atmosphere which we inhabit, or have an unfavourable emotional stirred by sounds in our environment, i think it's a natural 'knee jerk' reaction to censor it, or ridicule it, cover your ears, or 'hate' it or the person making the 'noise', depending on how extremely you feel about it, or how old u are
i feel that this special power of music, a power which stirs people's spirits for good or ill, is capable of soothing the savage breast yet also equally capable of inciting that breast to savagery.
i personally find it bad manners to slate the creator of the offending music, and prefer to remain unaffected by incompatible music if i can, but i feel that making a personal review, to say that piece of music wasn't your scene, would be ok :!

This whole thing remind me on S_C playing in le Loft in Lausanne this year... As the crowd didn't hear "regular techno" anymore (as S_C started...), a part of them started to whistle and to scream (in a negative way I mean...). I personally was really enjoying the show, and someone came to me and asked me "how can you like such a shit music ?". I was allready pissed of by the bad part of the crowd but this guy made me crazy, as only response, I told him "If you don't like the music, it's not my problem, I'm not the one here who paid 25 CHF to see a show I don't like...".
To the ones who want to criticise :
Don't say about something "it's shit", just say "I don't like it" and let the other people have their own opinion about it and tolerate this opinion.
(I hope it's understandable, I'm really tired and it's possible that I mixed some german and french in it...)

Like Invisibleplanet said, being in a state of trance is great...as the old saying goes....127...disco heaven....:)
There was indeed "once upon a time" when Trance was not a dirty word and the Uber Lords of Frankfurt ruled the earth with their Fliegs-Musik.....
But then, I can't really say have listened to that stuff since the demise of Harthouse and I-Q (circa 94/95) and discovered the likes of Landstrumm & Meister Vogel :)

Well I don't know...I think a littlebit of polemising can be refreshing sometimes. Or do you seriously want a board where everyone is PC, polite and friendly ALL the time??? And if somebody is slagging off someone at times SO WHAT? Take it easy.
Check out the Relapse records message board if you wanna see what's REALLY ruff. But they somehow learnt to live with it. They just don't take shit too personal.

LOOK. disagreements are fine. random abuse is not fine. fuck relapse or whatever, that's their thing. there are often arguments, diasagreements, inventive insults, debates on this board, but we dont want to tolerate "x is shit, y makes shit music" because as you well know the internet is FULL of boards that are at that level all the time.
sometimes you might think the board is too polite, whatever but it goes through phases and i think you may be mistaking abuse for interesting exchange.

the vick's and gasmask thing used to be really funny, but it wasn't always associated with shit music. when i was a turbofooting lad, the rave music consisted of beltram, R&S, NJOI, shut up and dance and other early breakbeat and probably early trance too. it's a shame that all these young american kids who seem so up for having a great laugh have such shit music soundtracking the doubtless fabulous times they are having.

Likewise - Mentasm, Malfunction, LFO and the like were all themes from when I was a nipper and first exposed to rave culture in 91. How things changed so quickly and became all this happy Q-tex hardcore shite and then onwards to chart music. P'ah!! A far cry from the Manchester-influenced scene I was introduced to. Nowadays, they even have a cheek to put on those "back in the day" nights with the likes of TTF and the other dross. I keep telling all the impressionable kids - it was shit then, and is shit now!!! Obviously I look on my own past with rose-tinted specs.....people obviously need to make up there own minds.

hater? anti-collider?
sorry, but it's my turn to feel offended now. I don't mind arguments, on the contrary. The thing I do mind, is things getting personal, ad hominem attacks etc. Because I post a negative review about the latest SC cd, I'm all of a sudden "anti" and labeled "hater"? How quick to judge. If I was a hater then I wouldn't be on this board. But I'll get back to that in the "negative review thread"

It serves you right to want to keep it civil, but I do think you're overreacting a little bit. Off course it's not my board so I don't make up the rules, but IMHO a strong debate can be very refreshing sometimes. As long as it's about the content, and not the person.
I've been involved in much heavier online debates than this, which enfuriated me frequently, but they were always civil and eventually I learned a lot from it.
phil, orang utan, phaedrus, shaun-ridge - you are all welcome to post here, of course and i hope if you do we can get to know each other in better circumstances.
On the contrary! I think circumstances like this are an excellent opportunity to get to know each other.

but that was one of the things i loved about raves - the death of cool. clubs have always had an element of taking yourself seriously and being cool, wearing expensive clothes, not sweating too much, attracting people, whereas raves were about making a big childish tit of yourself and consuming giant quantities of wotever and having a great time with incredibly friendly dodgy people. couldn't happen now o course, the dodgy people stopped bein friendly about 1992.

I went to a rave before I had been to a club really (I was smuggled into to technodrome, sort of), thus I couldn't really make the distinction. My first taste of overs was Circa in 92. I'd also attended various unders (Sub Club, DeJavu, Tin Pan Alley etc - nasty) but they don't count. By the time I started clubbing fairly regularly 93 onwards it was all jellies and shootings, no more silly beggars rubbing Vicks in your eyeballs *sighs*

ha, i remember circa. that was one of the places that went from being all lovey to being dodgy quite quickly, in direct correlation with the quality of the sweets going down and the rising popularity of jellies...scary times. 1990-92 was a very special time in scotland because there were no class distinctions for a while - neds and students partied together at clubs like pure, and at the raves. then the jellies moved in and we had to segregate everyone again. for a little while i got all ideological about e breaking down class barriers and all that. but it was only for a few hours at a time. still, it was real while it lasted.

as far as debates go, I don't mind when someone says they don't like something that I like. I just want them to give me a reason why. it is way to easy to say 'I don't like that, I think it is shit'.
but it seems to be a lot harder for someone to actually give reasons why.

Regarding Trance....Fuckers acting like you don't like it, I know you do, and stop trying to be cool already, I'm not buying it. Just the other day Pille' was telling me how he got the new Paul Okenfold CD, and how much he likes it. He was trying to get me to go to a rave, and pop pills with him, but I'm not that kinda guy. Just think of it this way, a whole lot of people don't like the music we like.
So stop the hate, lets start some fires instead, or lets have an international "tell a Suit to fuck off day" Yes it will be grand, Just find a corporate suit looking motherfucker (older CEO type), peferebly in a car that you wish you owned, roll down your window, and politely tell them to fuck off.
