rough translation

errmm, all critics are from de:bug

Gunjack - kevlar EP (Sheep/031)

As on the "Outlands" EP it continues here with static loop TRACKS of the Wallofsoundbasswobblefundament meets Hihatgeschnitzel kind. Naturally the perfect sound TRACKS for all, which do not want to learn and therefore any more to the Workout to go not be able hobbythekstyle at home measurer sharpnesses. We do injustice to him, because on the back finds also Brian Gibbs, which is as struck with its name as few, also a rubbelig knarzig neurotisches Quentchen of resoluter sound work and works with expenditure-squeezes digital sounds already nearly again modern.

Gunjack - Outlands (Sheep/029)

Actually completely beautifully more explosively, DTE by TRACKS on these EP. The latter was somehow more boringly, here however comes the few means so exactly on the point and the Beats slammen simply in its reduced kind, background dark and closely, and now and then even a large moment becomes from the simplest ideas like a Stakkato. The two different however are usual, ultradichter sound of hammer. Which was now the Marks Broom mixes, we do not know it.

Gunjack - Outland (Sheep/027)

I would have called the record Outback. Then would be the desert-flair with dezent prolligen WAD max of Nihilismus, that on the plate prevails been better connected. Boringly somehow. Only mass.

There is a review of MH's NH16 in DEC edition of Raveline...
I quote....

''Dirty Rat' is quite reminiscent of Theo Parrish productions.'

I know. Are there any German electronic music magazines worth buying? Or are they all shit, like 99.99% of the British ones?

de bug is interesting (is it german mag ?? ).......and the groove is good but it is for free :)

Weishaupt
6th January 2003, 19:26
jea.its a german mag...........it commes from triple r and bleed......
few years ago debug was a newspaper in the recordshop like faz or berliner morgenpost....cool style:-).................
raveline sucks anytime...............groove is good sometimes...........

i remember the gold old "stomp"mag..................12 years ago ;-)

jaja................

Irrungenwirrungen

Wasn't there a mag called 'Frontpage'? I remember reading something called that or similar.
Thought it was good at the time- 1993.
God, nine years ago. SHIT 10 years ago.

Weishaupt

"stomp" was a cologne mag createt bei michael göckel(bionic beats).........
"frontpage" is from franfurt createt by jürgen laarmann

cheerz mate

@irrungen

hmm, raveline does indeed suck, but imho it's still a lot better than most uk magazines...look at how little music they review in those!

but a large part of the interviews are quite boring and devoid of any real journalism let alone any type of criticism... in that sense it's very UK-style hehe

aleks
6th January 2003, 22:08
you can read the bits that interesting in raveline in about 5 minutes...so i everytime i have to wait for my train i go and read raveline.no need to buy that shit...

de-bug is good and groove as well...are there any others? i don´t think so...

Weishaupt
6th January 2003, 23:15
hm.......there are some little local mags like partisan and so.........

marcel
7th January 2003, 00:19
debug is still in newspaper-style. thats the only thing i don't like about them..not good to handle....
its run by most of the people who formerly made frontpage(the musicpart), without laarmann(don't know what mr. fat does today. anyone?).
imho theres nothing in the german musicjournalismworld besides groove and debug.

oh, of course, sorry i forgot the german rolling stone.....

I really liked de:bug, its the best for high electronic music.
Also that newspaper style is really cool.
Some years ago, as it even was a free magazin covered in some record shops, there was a really cool interview with Cris, Neil and Tobias. But when it wasn´t for free anymore, i don´t have bought it again...

theres another free mag called "intro" which is quite good. not electronic-music focused, more like indy. but they always have some nice things inside.

groove is alright, de:bug is cool although i don't like a few things about it: articles sometimes tend to get a challenge of who drops the most foreign words in one sentence. the sophistos strike back.
they also could be a bit more critical in their reviews-section. usually everything gets 4 to 5 dots which is a bit unreal, isn't it?

aleks
7th January 2003, 11:58
they just review good records:D :)

and yes, reading debug can be a bit of a challenge...especially when you are not that bright like i am:D :-p ;)

they only print reviews of music they like i think. otherwise there won't be enough place for all the music released in a month imo, but youre right in some ways

with the foreign words, i heard that from a couple of people but i myself don't see a problem in there.
do you want to have bild-niveau? (ok, not a thery good comparison)

intro is good sometimes but also weird in their musicmixup. and i think they have around 1000 german domains!!...

sometimes it´s just a bit too much...i want some info or whatever and not education. it should be on a level on which you can read fluently and not thinking about every second word and at the end you didn´t get a thing.i mean it´s not always like that but sometimes...

I agree with aleks, I had to translate some de:bug reviews and I really got the impression that at least part of the writing style is just "trying to sound intellectual", at least as great a crime as uncritical reviewing, imho.

amble
7th January 2003, 12:51
that's exactly what i wanted to say. it's not that i don't get what they write, it's more like they often could have wrote it a bit easier.

Makes me wonder now whether I've missed out on Theo Parrish's Freaky electro workouts and crazy distorted bass jacking movements.. I always thought the guy was so subtle....

If you think everything gets 4 or 5 dots in de:bug you must have overlooked something. Btw, nobody mentioned Spex??
