back to the roots.................
what do you hear at the moment............???

Im hearing the sound of "Sissi". A popular film in germany.
Its a story in three parts:

-Sissi

-Sissi, the young empress

-Sissi -The destiny of the empress

Absolutly german old school tv with Romy Schneider.

In this part who is the third part, sissi make a holiday in hungaria and i hear the sounds of a hungaria partybonker crowd!!

well, at this very exact moment i hear the dave brubeck quartet with an overlay of a book binder and printing presses (i'm at work). it's an odd mix of loose music and tightly spaced aggressive grinding and clacking.

i'm not sure if you meant this exact moment, or the moment in general, as in "lately". so i went on the exact tangeant.

and for the inspiration/listening. it´s all good old "the maytalas".
and tv gives me crapy tracks like J.Hoe - i´m still that hoe from the block and other shit tunes.

@kaoz: yeah, miles davis - summertime. it´s very good.

Re: Deadbeat

Amazing evening of music: (Last MUTEK- May 2002, Montreal, PQ)
Open jam between Deadbeat (Mtl) and Monolake (Bln)- via netcast.

Three screens hung above him on stage-
Each displayed the interface upon which they improvised some amazing dub.
The interaction between the two was all displayed for us.
(colour-coded - to show what each person was doing)-

Danced my ass off and laughed at the two joking around with sound.

Fucking great.

fr/: http://www.mutek.ca/

Atlantic Waves - A live Montreal / Berlin transatlantic Internet session
Over the last few years Robert Henke (Monolake) and Scott Monteith (Deadbeat) have developed a friendship almost entirely through interactions in the digital domain, through various emails and audio file transfers. After participating individually at the first MICRO_MUTEK event in February 2001, today their first collaborative performance will incorporate the technologies that allowed them to meet in the first place. Using Henke's custom-designed performance application and Monteith's custom-designed short percussive elements, the two will perform an improvised set of rhythmic minimal textures, sure to please fans of their previous individual works.

well, it's better that "druqij reif;n;aovnanv" or how ever his coffee cup fell on to his dell lap top keyboard.
i like aphex twin, but a lot of that album was ripping off peirre scheifer and his contempories with the whole automated stringed instrument thing then flinging in a few acid track to keep all the smack heads happy. i just find stuff like team doyobi and freeform more dynamic and vital.

amble
8th January 2003, 17:10
you are right, he should have slimmed down "druqks" to one cd only. read an interview in groove when he said that he basicly released it because he lost a cd (or md?) with lots of unreleased tracks in a plane. clever enough he had wrote "Richard James - Unreleased Tracks" on it. so he put it out as fast as possible trying to make some money with it before all these tracks appear as mp3 somewhere which i can understand.

and yes team doyobi is cool. and freeform fucking ROCKS! that "audio tourism.." cd is fantastic, so is everything else i heard so far.

Its'a double mix cd he's just released on DMC. One cd UK Hiphop and the other one Drum n Bass.

To be honest he does a few little tricks/scratchathons here and there but nothing like when you see him live.

With you on the Missy cd Emma, going back to the old skool "this is hiphop so dance.." roots. And you've lost me on most of the others (as usual)... where do you get your music from ? Cos I ain't seen no Notwist down the local HMV ... ;-)

Lady E
31st January 2003, 18:02
you should be able to get the notwist in hmv - its on city slang, album is called 'neon golden' - very melancholy but quite uplifting pop electronica songs

david grubbs - "rickets and scurvy" - thats on fat cat. he's kind of the godfather of post - rock.
j mascis and the fog - "more light", also city slang. alternative rock from the frontman of Dinosaur Jr. uncool and proud.

the only ones are a UK new wave band from the 70s / 80s famous for a track called "another girl another planet" and being dead miserable.

meteorites + landstrumm/fellows/blake are coming out on RRR

the scion thing is on tresor and its bascially loads of basic channel records mixed together by some younger chain reaction types, as far as i can work out...very good!

usually i get my records from Edgeworld in Brighton, or anytime im near a Fopp or Essential music for CDs...or HMV or Virgin or online stores!
i love Edgeworld, its a tiny shop above a comic shop and it does all sorts of cool music, they are very nice too.
