any recommendations about important things when moving over like health insurance, etc. ?

its a bit of a tricky one getting registered to live here pemanently, well it has been for me anyway. lots of info here http://www.iamsterdam.com/

you can get an european health insurance card, not sure what it covers though as they have to pay here for healthcare.
