Just wondering- if anyone knows (on average) what a typical rent would be for a flat for two in Barcelona.

Planning to hop over in time...
Wondering if I'll be landing...
...rough at the curb-
...or smooth in a room, with a view...
more important: a roof.

Any help would be appreciated-

thanks, merci, gracias, danke

Hello - that depends on if youre after a room or a flat.Lets presume you want a room to start off with in a shared flat (much easier believe me).For a couple youre looking at starting price of around 300 europas .Alot depends on luck ,contacts are always useful and of course the time of year .Summertime is madness and looking for a dwelling can fray nerves...get in there before hand is my advice.
Looking for a flat can be quite an experience ,difficult if youre a "giri"(foreigner). But with perseverance you can score a 2 bedroom for 5-600 euros.
If your serious I can dig up some email leads for you but you could check www.barcelona-metropolitan.com to get an idea.Hope that helps -accomodation in Bcn is becoming scarce - price you pay for joining us trendees living here! M

Well - in fact its an official , well documented nightmare , the accomadation situation in the city... To view a flat expect to view it with at least 4 other people at the same time... Even if you do find a place you like , which is not a dark stink hole in a bad area , they will charge you HUGE agency fees (usually 10% of a years rent) and on top of that if you are a non-resident without a job , they will ask for an Aval Bancaria which is a secured lump sum of money in a special bank account , which cannot be touched without the permission of the landlord for the duration of your tenancy.. it is to cover legal costs / rent / damages etc... this can be as much as 3000 euros or six months rent in advance!!! ... so , getting a room is much easier option , and you can also see if you actually like it here , before moving all your stuff over!

Hrmmm...

So, you guys are saying..

"Come to the best place to live in the world... cause... errr...
any place with this much of a 'riddle me in' element- has to be some form of paradise..."

I am encouraged...

Well, maybe moreso: I am up for a challenge.

Thanks very much for the replies...

"Coima" is one if the Spanish words that sticks out in my mind. ;)

I am planning a short trip over, (in the summertime) so that I may search the lands for the one hidden jem... ?? (still hopefull)

"Naive" is still more comfortable... despite the future implications.

(I'll assign the "truth of the matter" parts to the personality that draws the shortest straw.)

Again, thanks for the help.

I have much homework to do- At least now I have some more direction...
