View Full Version : Any good way to cure cold and fever ???
sniffio
9th October 2005, 12:23
The season is changing over here in japan.
We have four regular seasons.
It's beginning to change to Fall from Summer.
I always try to be careful not catch a cold between the changing seasons,
but this year it finally came.
The fever is just beginning and I am confident that I can cure this quick
if I take the right methods and actions immediately.
I ate two lemons, three bananas, three mangos, and a small bottle of energy-juice.
I've been sleeping tight, sweating, changing my clothes, and trying not to do anything.
(There are tons of shirts that I sweated, and unfortunately my laundry machine just broke down.
Why now S-h-a-r-p !)
This is my second day and I'm doing alot better now.(althogh I have to work)
If you knew any other good methods for curing cold and fever,
plz share it with us.
I heard honey and lemon is good.
My mom told me that I shold take lots of fluids.
US's cold-medicine works fantastic.
They really studied their medicine all right.

"energy-juice"
http://www.catalog-taisho.com/taishodata/img/A0124801.jpg
"Get your self together!" -the company's favorite ad with the drink.
http://www.catalog-taisho.com/brand/image001/fight.gif
Japan used to sell methamphetamine like this in the early-after-war-era.
This was how methamphetamine was developed and was sold at the beginning.
My English friend won't drink the energy juice because he doesn't trust them.
I don't blame him.
Just found the ads for the methamphetamine in those days.
It was called "Hiro-pon".
Kind a like,"Barny" the purple dinosaur. It sounds as friendly as that.

I guess you don't have Benylin? It's a mixture of decongestant and pholcodeine I think, like junior heroin really... anyway if I have hardcore flu, I mix 50ml Benylin with 50ml whisky. Have two or three of these (but no more or you will fall on the floor). Sorted.

thx.
I was fooling around with the illustrator and photoshop.
This turned out at the last minute.
avi is avatar right?
If you like, I can make a "Kanji"(Ancient Chinese Characters) with your name,
or whatever that you desire.
If I have the time, I can send you the data.
But I do not know what "warren D" would stand for since it is a name.
Nofuture was easy, "No""Future"
and so would be "Pencil""Neck" since it already has a meaning.
Duh, I can just make it up for you.
Anyone else want their name in Kanji ???

ps, there is an old wives tale which says "feed a cold, starve a fever"
lots of vitamin C, and a garlic loaded diet works best for me.

Konichiwa, sniffio
Take a SMALL amount of whisky (getting drunk is NOT good for colds/flu) and put it into a cup
Squeeze in some lemon juice. Also, take slice of lemon and then get some cloves.. stab them into the lemon's rind. Put this slice into the same cup, along with a teaspoon of honey.
Top it all up with boiling water and stir.
Drink it as hot as you can without burning yourself!
Chicken Soup is proven to have benefits too. Galric also (garlic & chicken soup?)
I would LOVE a kanji version of my name, but not for "whuffle"
When I lived in japan (as a child) my father's name was often represented simply by an oval/circle. Like the letter "0"
I am not sure why, or what it means. Any ideas?
For my name, could you do something that says "jazz bear" ?
Thats my other nickname online.
Get well soon!!!

I remember you posting a site where we can upload pictures.
Do you still have the url to that site ??
Does anyone know any good way to send the imgs that I'm willing to create ??
Guess zipping and sending it by gmail is the easiest, but how will I know your email-addresses ?? hmm

I'm not sure with your father's name.
Is his name pronounced like "kuchi" ?_
As with the phrase "Jazz", I need to use katakana letters, which is not ancient-chinese-characters, but a japanese-modern-characters. hope that works.
And thank you for your regards.

I am looking forward to seeing it! If you feel that kanji are better to use than katakana for a name, then maybe use "vision bear" instead.
Someone translated into Sioux-Indian for me once, and it came out as "dream bear" dream meaning ghost or halucination that a witch-doctor would have. Stangely apropriate for Jazz! It is pronounced Waho-eyoka Mata

second

third
sound=mugi
meaning=wheat
fourth
sound=sake

we have "vision" in other kanji, but I made the first two into a original word.
Thought this was better for avatar purpose.
The last two characters does really stand for the word "beer".
Done!
I wanted to fatten' up the words like mine,
but I do not know how to do that on Macromedia Fireworks, Windows.
It was alot easier to do that on Illustrator, OSX.
But still I did my best job.
Hope you guys like it!!
plz enjoy.

it would exactly mean this !!!
http://www3.kcn.ne.jp/~mamama/kyoto/temple/z-00263.jpg
He is the Great King of Hell.
He rules his kingdom, Hell.
If you die, you have to go in front of him

He will judge whether you'll go "Up" or "Down".
And if you lie,
He is going to cut out your TONGUE,
Pulls it out with a ranch,

it was too hard for me to create in sounds,
so I had to create in the meaning method.
(otherwise it would be around 8 characters if I went with the sound method.)
the first word
sound=hou
meaning=letting it go
second
sound=rou
meaning=to use alot, waste
third
sound=sei,or nama
meaning=raw
fourth
sound=nyuu, or chi-chi
meaning=milk
I tried my best to fit the meaning of "gypsy" into kanji.
I can barely know what gypsy actually mean.
Although I know it can be a discrimination, the best i can come up was
gypsy=wander about, roam, rove, drift.
And "cream", there is no kanji to fit cream, so the best I could come up was
cream=raw milk
The first two characters mean "gypsy"=wandering, and the last two mean "cream"=raw milk.
"Clair" was lot easier compared to "gypsy_cream".
Here it is. (made by the sound method)
http://img449.imageshack.us/img449/3200/2003731036384634jp.gif
The first word
sound=ku
meaning=after a long time, silence, absence.
second
sound=re
meaning=politeness, etiquette, thanks, gratitude.
third
sound=a
meaning=too ancient for me to understand.
but usually this character is used in the Gods name, or in a Buddism.
This is the God, name Asura whom starts with the clair's third character "a".
Asura

Second
sound=ten
meaning=dot, point, spot, period.
Very easy to understand and recognize.

sniffio
10th October 2005, 20:57
Sure thing, skosh.
I just want to make sure but "sukoshi" is a Japanese word, right ?
If it is, I can just make a simple one for that.
Kanji for "suko" and a Hiragana for "shi".
Or would u only want kanji for everything??
-Hiragana-
Japanse basic characters which is developed after the inheritance of kanji.
Much simpler characters than kanji. Easier to learn, too.

10th October 2005, 21:49
All right, skosh, this one is for you.
This one is for "Heather"
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2531/16ni.gif
Now before you read this any further,
I must tell you that I have done my best.
First word
sound=he
meaning=fart
Second
sound=da
meaning=saliva, sputum.
Yes, skosh, it's fart.
I was amazed, too, to know that japanese has only few kanji to pronounce "he" for your "Heather".
My only option was to choose the word "saliva" that could at least construct somekind of a meaning after the word "fart".
By the time now,
I'm sure that everyone understands the importance of kanji when nameing your own child.
If your naming a child with the sound "he",
there's a good chance that it's going to literally mean "fart".
Skosh, I really like your "Skoshi" mode, too.
I made a few so u can select.
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/8468/235698qi.gif
First word
sound=suko
meaning=less
You'll need to add a Hiragana, "shi" to make it sound "suko-shi".
But I did not know that the word "suko" looked quite well in large.
The second one is the one with the Hiragana, "shi".
Hiragana does not have its own meaning by itself.

Kanji has it's own meanings in its visual ways.
English may have meanings in the sound ways.
ex) name:"phil"=philosophy
There is not much of kanji which could sound "hea"(he),
(like your name's first accent for "Hea-ther"),
This kanji I have selected for your name CAN sound "hea",
but the kanji itself ALREADY has a meaning, too.
In this case, it's "fart"
Good example would be the symbol "?".
Although "?" has no sound, it has a meaning "question mark".
Well, kanji has its own sound and it also has its own meaning.
It has two dimentions of data, sound and vision.
In your case, the first kanji sounds "hea"(he),
and the visual part means "fart".
I don't blame you if you cannot understand this.
This is the hard-bit of learning japanese.

To explain the visual meanings of kanji, here is an example.
This is a picture of a mountain.
http://www.tsukuba-ibk.ed.jp/~s-tai-e/home/gakusyuu/2004/DSC00320.jpg
This is the kanji for mountain.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/2169/236652io.gif
Can u tell that they both look a like ?
The kanji looks like a mountain in the upper picture.
It is more likely to say that it has been "drawn" rather than "written".
The kanji is like a manga(animation, or comic) verison of the thing that it resembles.
In this case, this kanji will sound "ya-ma",
and its visual image tells us that it means "mountain".
Two dimention of data.
This is the main source how Japan evolved in animation and manga.
China developed kanji.

ok late in the day with this one but i recently found out that if you are a smoker you should be taking 2000mg of vitamin C on a daily basis
if you've got a cold you should be looking to double that
industrial sized doses!
but it works having just kicked a hole right through something that was gearing up to be a stinker
those slow release supplements are the best as your body can't store it and they last for 8hrs
take 2-3 500mg tablets every 8hrs with some echinacea tincture to boost your white bloods cells
Hagbard
11th October 2005, 11:05
I'm sure I read that Vitamin C helps prevent you from getting colds... but that once you have a cold it doesn't actually make any difference in the amount of time it takes you to recover. So yes you should be eating/taking it when you have a cold, but the point is you should be always having it in some form anyway.. whether you are ill or not.

a) Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that is actively secreted into semen to reach levels eight times higher than those found in the bloodstream.
b) The high concentration of zinc in semen damps down sperm activity, keeping them in a relatively quiescent state. This lowers their consumption of oxygen and conserves sperm energy.

good morning.
excellent 12hr sleep.
I'm now back on my osx.
It works differently, and i need to learn it from the beginning.
Indeed, they both have their pros and cons.
Steevio, this one is for you !
It was amazing how noble your kanji turned out to be.
http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/1310/steev1047lo.jpg
First word,
sound=su
meaning=prime, sober
second
sound=tei
meaning=emperor, imperial !
third
sound=bu
meaning=warrior, fighter, fight, war.
"bu-jyutu" is similar to "kang-fu".
Your kanji "bu" is the same kanji as the "bu"-"jyutu" 's "bu".
hope u like it, your majesty.
but still, the Great King of Hell is watching for your tongue.

i remember have been at a small japan festival in a mall. there was a guy who made me a bookmark with my name in japanese signs, i don't know if it's maybe kanji...
my name is daniela, and he splitted it in 4 syllables (or words?!)
i think it was something like "dan - ie - e -la", but maybe i'm wrong...
one means "cinnabar" another one "rainbow", but i can't remember the rest... :(
can u please make me a image of my kanji for the comp?! :)
sniffio
13th October 2005, 08:51
sure thing!
i'm in my music mode at the moment,
will let you know when i'm done.
I'm thinking of visiting my friend who is a web designer,
and ask him how to use illustrator on OSX.
I have to guess the kanji that the guy made for u,
but I'm quite sure mine is going to be different from that.
Let's see what will turn out.
btw, what does "comp" means???
@everyone: Thx guys, I'm finally cured completely. I think the lemmon and tons of water did the trick.(had to go to the bathroom almost 20 times a day).
@phil: nap is good for you if u can keep it between 1hr or 1h30min.
Usually, I can go easily 3-5hr. I've decided to stop taking them cause that meant "sleeping", not "nap". I meant to say "sleep" but "nap" sounded better when I posted earlier. And you came along to reply. The mistry of words. Some kind of a gravity ?? It pulled u to the dimension. Well, at least that's the only word that i can describe it.

Hi, sway,
this one is for Uuuuuuuu !
http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/3603/345032361232117350641000ak.gif
First word,
sound=da
meaning=snake
Second
sound=ni
meaning=nun, priestess
Third,
sound=e
meaning=picture, painting
Fourth
sound=ra, la
meaning=naked, nude
Is this a coincidence?
I do not know why but women's names are very likely to turn out kinda-- umm,
sexy.
...............feminine!
While boys, like Jukka, is "curse"+"fire",
steve has "solber"+"emperor"+"warrior".
phil has "rotten".
hmm, interesting.
I know my "interest" in choosing the actual kanji had to do something,
but this is not just that.
maybe there is a link in every culture.
I'm glad I did this!
lol!!! maybe the sounds like "ra", "la", "ri", "e",
which sound more "rounded" are for women.
While, "s", "ka", "j"
which sound more "sharp" are for men.

I have no idea what this means as a whole,
but I can explain what every characters are used with.
First word,
sound=na
meaning= ???, but this is the first character for the ancient city in Japan, "Na"ra.
Nara is lot older than Kyoto, the ancient Capital city.
Nara used to be the Capital, too.
Second,
sound=de
meaning=go out, be out, attend
Third,
sound=tsu
meaning=???, but this is the first character for "tsu"nami, tidal wave.
Forth,
sound=a
meaning=???, but this is the first character for "a"syu, which means subspecies.
wow, this one was the weirdest one ever.
I'm speechless.
If you read "Nadika" in Japanese way, it turns out to be the bambi-mode above.
A little difference in pronounciation can cause so much difference.
Very classic name, though.:-p
