I've seen them live twice, both times supporting Radiohead, and frankly, both times I've seen them, they've been complete long-winded noodling wankery toss.

Someone gave me their latest album the other day, and I'm surprised to say, it's bloody fantastic.

Although the own downside is, the CD case is an odd size and shape, and like Ultravisitor, doesn't fit in my CD rack.

Got the new Sigor Ros, I've only listened to it once, its ok, doesn't sound as good as their previous but perhaps it just has to grow on me.

As for Animal Collective, I love this band, haven't heard the new album yet but bought the Grass 7" and love it. Not really that comparable with Sigor Ros though.

i had a borrowed sigur ros ceedee on my car stereo a year or so ago, and it was so fey and irritating i wanted to drive into a wall at high speed.

They're OK, but don't hold a candle to Röyksopp. ;)

i like the first ep they did for fat cat. with one track that's got a lot of piano on it. but i think there is only room in my life for one sigur ros record. don't think i could stick listening to a whole album by them in one go. i saw them support godspeed...., i thought they were pretty good but godspeed were better. it was at the cockpit in leeds and some bloke was shouting obscenities from the crowd during all the quiet bits of sigur ros' set. and it had a lot of quiet bits, which resulted in a lot of swearing from this guy.

animal collective are nothing like sigur ros so why compare them?

i like the first two sigur ros albums. they are very nice and have their place, sort of sunday evening whilst in the bath music.

I got the new album, and overall thought it a bit disappointing, but still a nice listen. All a bit samey though, especially after (). The track "Glosoli" is fantastic though - I love the big buid up at the end of the track. Also an amazing film clip.
The thing that annoys me the most about Sigur Ros though are the gibberish lyrics. It wouldn't be so bad if they at least varied them a bit. On () it seems like just about every track has the same lyrics - anybody know what "yessai" is supposed to mean?? (pops up again on several songs on the latest album).

i think they're good. they're detractors seem to mainly slate them for having a "sound"- which puts them slightly too far out for the average radiohead ticketholder who just wants to get straight to "creep", but not nearly far out for all the noo-psych-whimsy brigade who slate an album if its got the same instrument on more than one song or consonants in the vocals.

I'd like to think I'm not an average radiohead ticketholder, thomas ;)

i know, i know, sly dig thats all. just thhouught the disparity between the first 2 posts summed up their problem a biit. too grandoise for some, not enough for others

what I really mean, I guess, is that without listening to their album, live, they come over as really dull, because the intrices of their tunes just don't come over live, it just seems a bit jazz odyssey..

but listening to the album on a hifi, you get to understand a bit more what it's about

probably live again, I'd enjoy them, because I'd know more what was going on

ok after putting this previously, last night i was dragged along to see them and i can honestly say i was fucking blown away.

their performance was the most amazingly talented mix of beautiful and powerful music combined with a perfect visual accompanyment.

I apologise for my initial outbreak and well and truly put my foot in my mouth.

highly recommended, go and see them.

I think Debussey is shit, Cradle of Filth are loads better.

c'mon people, horses for courses. Sigur Ross are excellent at what they do. If you aren't into the genre, then fine.. but then you don't have an informed opinion to give, just a personal taste.

I reckon if you are passionate about making music, open-mindedness is the order of the day.

Personally, i love to chill out, and they are excellent for that sort of meditative immersion in something other than yr own head for a while.

Takk has really grown on me since I first got it. I think it's a really good album now, amazing production.

When I first heard them it reminded me of Slowdive. And Slowdive always seemed to me like "we wish we were MBV". And I didn't pay much attention after that. Not to say they were bad... but just another version of sommat that had already happened.

I think the second album had quite a few very very good tracks on it as well as some awful muck. On the whole though, they seem to be getting worse.

lfo did a wicked remix of sigur ros right? the first album was pleasant enough. liked listening to it when i was cooking i think...but then they had that weird anti abortion type imagery on the cover of some album and i was not into that...

wish they had turkey on the cover instead...i like turkey.. ;)
