had quite a nice chat about mortality with a mate in the pub a few nights ago. Sadly he lost both parents within a few years and says the best way to cope is to talk about it. Most people see it as a taboo to talk about death but i think realising your own mortality can be one of the most important things you can do, puts things into perspective...

I talk about death all the time. It doesn't bother me at all. It's funny, a lot of people seem to think not believing in an afterlife makes life not worth it, or that you'd fear death because there is nothing after it. But I take the complete opposite view. Because there isn't an afterlife, you've got to make this life the best one you possibly can whilst you're here. And I can't fear death, because when I do die, since I believe there is nothing after it, it won't matter that I'm dead, since I won't know.

I myself am not fond of the darkness – I sleep with the lights on now. It’s in the darkness I see the boy’s face. Eyes protruding, tongue out…black.

Dying is fine - I know, I'm dead.

..As a believer in reincarnation, i`d say "hey! death is cool!" I mean, you get a different conciousness to death....Why do most of the people jerk together in fright when you say "death"...Ridiculous....Belongs to life like anything else......

Lets all have a party for our afterlife!!!!Yay!

I think there would be far less angst in the world if everyone were able to come to terms with their own mortality. The way we go about life (in the west at least) you would think we were all immortal.
BTW, any of you guys got any thoughts on Ray Kurzweil and his idea of the singularity?
