hi!

i'm thinking about buying a laptop for liveset / mixing ... but all the laptops i see have only one sound-output and one line-in... i need a computer with 2 out's and one line-in...
does anybody know which companys produce laptops with these spec's included... or where i could get a good extra soundcard for a laptop...?
all that shoudn't be too expensive... (i want 20gb hdd, 256mb ram, 1ghz or more... could be an older one... i need it for playing sounds, not for playing games...)
thanks for any info's?

cheers,
sven

Get twice as much RAM (DDR stuff as well, thats faster) You can never have enough RAM I think a lot of people recommend 384mb minimum...next time I get a laptop Im going for at least 512 ram and a 2gig chip....havent seen anyone offering a laptop with two soundcards internally...when Im rich I'll get an external firewire one for my new laptop, which I'll also get when Im rich!

I was going to buy a TiBook with a Motu 828 if the Ableton Live performance on these things hadn't been sooo disappointing... but I can recommend the Motu and have seen the RME HDSP solution work beautifully on a Sony... People generally recommend Sonys, Toshibas and Dells a lot, though I've heard some horrible stories about the latter.... try for yourself, is the only advice I can give ya

thanks... hmm the main problem is the internal soundcard in all laptops... only one out, one mic in... but i need 2 out and one line in... i talked to my chief (boss?) but he said that he don't knows any laptop with this...
sony laptops are good (hehe i work at this company) but the christmas extra-selling is over, and they were too expensive for me...

bah... just now it's the first "jägermeister" i drunk who tastes bad...

well if you work there... it doesn't get any cheaper I guess, and at around 2300 Euro it's not that bad...

ok, you're right that i get some electronic things cheaper than others... but the laptops and pc articles, and playstations are produced in england, and we (because we're called sony but we're the rest of a doughter company (wega)) don't get this things much cheaper...
axel... no i don't know him... ;(

Strangely enough I was looking at laptops a couple of weeks ago and noticed that one of the Packard Bells had one line in and two audio outs (they were made of stell as well the plastic ones break I can assure you) so it might be worth checking them out..NOTE only one of them had this feature....Ive got a Toshiba, which has had a new motherboard, cd tray and soundcard under guarantee...but on the other hand our work toshiba feel eight feet (2.5 metres) and suffered no damage...despite the fact it was switched on and was not in its case...

What's up man ! I have a laptop too, and when I started looking for professional Audio Quality on the move I found lot's of options.
You can look for a USB audio Interface. Some brands in the market are M-Audio, Edirol and Motu among others.
The other option is to look for a PCMCIA device, some names are the brand new Echo Indigo (24 bit , 96 Khz with 2 outpus for just $99.9 + S/H) and the Hammerfall DSP (24/96 too).
I heard that Digidesign was about to launch a new firewire audio interface. But, if you are planning to buy one of those, be sure your computer has the apporpiate IEE 1394 bus controller, or try to get a PCMCIA firewire port.
Well ! hope this info works for ya !! C Ya !!!

---> Go to the system properties... to do this (under win98, NT or ME) just go to the desktop, right click on "My Computer" Icon and then to Properties. The other way to arrive there is to go to the control panel and then to system. Being there just look for the device manager, and in the device manager look for something that says 1394 Bus Controller.

I find (Edirol) UA-5 USB interfejsbetter solition anyway-can be also used to connect mixer to PC with optical outputs(full 01000111 technology-whow!).You`ve said smthg about other marcs-I found only edirol-by Roland probably-You know M Audio or Motu-what are they-the same like edirol or just smth like that and how 2get it on the market(the best 2 hand ofcourse!).You know-I need it for some of music production-if You have any info about that interfejs-write me back!!!!! *_*

---> Edirol, as you said, is a marc. M-Audio (www.m-audio.com), Echo and Motu are marcs too, you can look for some usb audio products from m-audio here (http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/USBaudio.php). Also, you can search for usb, pcmcia or firewire audio interfaces on the internet most popular stores, like www.musiciansfriend.com, www.zzounds.com, www.audiomidi.com etc. Just be sure that the audio interface has the appropiate ASIO drivers and at least 24 bit / 96 Khz to get good quality Sound.

Hope this helps !!!
