In january we celibrate 8 years of Planet Rose nights @ Doornroosje (Nijmegen). This weekly clubnight on saturday survided 8 turbulent years in the everchanging dance scene. If we are not mistaken, it’s the longest running clubnight in Holland! In 1995 when the Planet Rose was founded there were no set musical boundaries. Artists as different as Jeff Mills, Daft Punk, 4 Hero and DJ Krush played in these first years. Slowly the musical direction evolved more and more towards techno in the broadest sense. It meant that the harsh techno of the likes of Marco Carola, Surgeon and Dave Clarke was combined with the more melodic (the Youngsters, Daniel Bell and Juan Atkins) and experimental (I-f, Plaid, Like-a-Tim and Hakan Lidbo) side of techno. The list of artists is enormous and can be found on the Planet Rose website: www.planetrose.nl. The Planet Rose is always looking for innovative, interesting and creative artists and is considered one of the most trendsetting and original nights in the Dutch scene.
The venue (Doornroosje) has 2 rooms: the main room with a capacity of 425 and a back room with a capacity of 175 people. The main room is always open, the back room when there’s an allnighter or special artists. The main room is the techno room, allthough electro, house and breaks are no strange styles for this part of the venue. The back room offers different, usually more ‘relaxed’ music. House, deephouse, breaks, electro and dub are popular here.
The doors open at 23.00 and close at 4.00 (on normal nights) or 6.00 (Planet Rose Special). Entry is as low as possible. We are always looking for the perfect balance between quality and quantity. On normal nights there is a € 2,- discount when you arrive within the first hour. The Planet Rose Special is once a month. These events last till 6.00 pm sunday morning and the headliners are usually well known artists within the techno scene. The likes of James Ruskin, Jeff Mills, the Advent, Blake Baxter and Johannes Heil headlined some of these parties.
Doorpolicy is mild, smoking weed is allowed, but violence, dealing and racism is absolutely not tolerated!
The Planet Rose has 4 resident DJ’s. Since day one: DJ Pure and DJ Hansz and more recently B-Tek and LL. They are the faces of Planet Rose and are a guaranteed quality factor. The residents undeniably have their share in the succes of the nights, Their musical horizon is broad and genre limitation is not applicable to these guys!
