i heard him only once at club8.mai. hm i must say i was a little bit disappointed, not really interesting, mostly the toolthang. but maybe it depends on in what kind of club he plays. 8.mai is known as a "schranzschuppen"

i've heard from several people that his mixing is semi-sloppified and his tracks are monotonous.
is it cheap to see him?

I have seen alan two or three times. nice harder minimal techno. lots of drums and cool sounds. I always enjoyed him when I saw him. also after meeting him once, I must say he is probably the nicest big time jock I have ever met!!
I say check him out!! but I guess it really matters what kind of techno you are into. also I have never thought of him as sloppy. not at all.

Alan Oldham is a very talented guy, who has been very supportive of my gunjack project. he played double copies of my track - "hedshot" on the main stage, to close out this year's DEMF. The guy is a hard working DJ/producer. Support generator/pure sonik like a jockstrap yo!

I met/seen Alan Oldham play about 5 years ago and it was one of the most tough, unrelenting and powerful sets I'd heard - and still is. Mills was on after him, and he still held his own. I would go and see him, but can't comment on how he is nowadays. A really nice guy, and takes a lot of time to talk, a strange irony to his aggressive DJ style. If I was to grade his set I would say 8/10 if that helps (that's very good in my book)

alan can be monotonous or interesting depending on his mood. sometimes he tries to upstage people which can be an unattractive trait, no doubt. he also has an ego the size of texas from all indications. i opened for a show with him, juan atkins and jay denham. he played at 4am and banged non-stop until 6. non-stop that is, except for the 2 times he completely stopped the music to announce to the 35 people in the room that he was "dj t-motherfuckin'-1000" and that "only detroit djs can play like this. fuck everybody else." he then proceeded to pull out a roll of pure sonic stickers and throw them out at the remaining crowd, rock star style. this experience left a really bad tast in my mouth. i'm sure he's not such a bad guy but why?...

I say good on him, if there were only 35 people in the room and he still gave it to em like he was playing at a stadium. As for the music, bores the Calvins off me (what i've heard)

the last time i saw him playing he dropped a bad ass hip hop tune...mellancholiks or something like that, anybody ever heard of them?

to jamyna -"good on him" for giving "it to em like he was playing at a stadium"... well, it was punishing to the point where people left. and he's done it elswhere. i heard that when he had regis play in detroit he basically upstaged him by giving himself the prime slot and putting karl on last. the place turned out to be empty at the end. kinda fucked up but i wasn't there so its all heresay. and what's with the "only detroit djs can play like this" bit? just not my vibe at all (must not've heard my set, hehe) but more power to him. if he's got fans and likes what he does... then again, same for the backstreet boys.

gunjack-jay played an excellent set. not quite as intense or tricky as i've heard him elsewhere but great track selection. played gameform so it must've been good.

to quote generator 2:

not exactly new behaviour for mr. t-1000...

like I said, it's a separate sample on the generator 2 record, generator of course being mr. oldham's old label. there was also a ep on paparazzi record which featured samples from that quote, with mixes by human by default, styro 2000, the hacker & frank müller...
