all right! I have finished the beginning to the dj mix cd. I am sorry it took a little while. like I said in another post I have been busy with school, and I have been sick the past week. but it is done and ready to go to the next person!!!
I am not sure who I am supposed to send it to next. so I am sending it pille' and who ever is supposed to get it, or wants it should post here and get there address to pille'.
I would take care of it myself, but as is posted in another post, I will not have internet access for a few weeks, so I will not be able to check in here as often and get the cd out in a timely manner.
so I guess that is all. now we can get this thing rolling!!

hey, nobody want it?....
pille, where're you??
wheezer
6th February 2003, 12:38
like I said somewhere else on this board, Helsinki is not that far from Moscow...
phono
6th February 2003, 12:56
sure, wheezer! :)
but i dont' know who is the next in pille's list...
if he will not answer for 2days, i'll send it to you! :)
do you travel to St.Petersburg or Moscow sometime?
wheezer
6th February 2003, 13:01
I think pille' is kicking the random styles with the list of participants, but it sounds very unlikely that we won't hear anything from pille the next two days phono, don't you worry about that lol
anyway, I've been to st.petersburg once, amazing city! I had some guys from a moscow club (I think it had telex in the name or berlin or something like that?) ask me about a booking, but a local russian friend recommended against it...
phono
6th February 2003, 13:11
what club?
telex in the name or berlin... may be cafe "moscow-berlin"?
st.petersburg... great! :)
i played there several times. people there are more sensitive for music than here, in moscow. but may be it's just in my opinion :)
wheezer
6th February 2003, 13:18
haven't played at st.petersburg, was just visiting - yeh, "moscow-berlin", that was it!
phono
6th February 2003, 13:40
what music do you play? moscow-berlin is just a cafe... no techno... only deep music!
wheezer
6th February 2003, 13:53
yeh it was through these salo guys I guess, they had heard a minimal/deep mix of mine, that how the whole thing came to be!

hold on there, spinach ginny - the maximum mix time was 6 minutes, right? well if carbonized is still joining, where at 23 people, that's a double cd sure as my name is heinz-jürgen hinkel...
pille'ocheoni
6th February 2003, 22:08
is that a insult? i never said carbon was joining, and why do you cause yourself so trouble in the matter anyways?
wheezer
6th February 2003, 22:14
no no, no insult sir! bruce campbell sez that in army of darkness, actually lol well even if carbon doesn't join, I just wanted to point out that with 22 people at 6 minutes each, we're looking at a double cd...of course one can also put the two parts together at the end and publish it online as one big mp3...
CHIP TRONIC
6th February 2003, 22:14
well i am in germany
pille'ocheoni
6th February 2003, 22:22
ok........if you look at the original thread of dj=mixing signup you'll see we agreeded that it was going to be a double cd. no problem., and please dont take this as a insult:) " give me some sugar baby "

ah I overlooked that! hehe we have had too many threads for this, confusing lol
phono
6th February 2003, 23:20
huh... ok!
thetonewrecker:
i see you are in USA! ok this will be better to send mixingCD to nearest place... cos from pille it was taken about 3 weeks to pass CD to me. anyways it'll be in your hands!
pille:
here you are, buddy! so our project become more real! :)
wheezer:
now i see your address and hope tommorrow morning i'll send it to you!
all:
be carefull with the quality! i tryed to improve it, but haven't so much time.. i saw that willothewisp said somewhere here that it'll be better to cut it in previous mix and your mixed track. after that all you need is use the same volume...
but it seems doesn't work good! cos there'll be not only different volumes, but also different quality (one of the parts will be more noisy or in different frequency spectrum cos we use different equipment). may be it'll be better to record whole mix one more time (not cut and paste) real time... for sure we need to make some operations (equalization, compress and normalize it)...
so what do you think about this problem?? it's really important! we need to make a decision in the beginnig!

well, in this case i think the best option is:
to burn every part of the mix as .wav file, so at the end someone will join them together.
what do you think of it?
phono
7th February 2003, 12:17
Will O The Wisp,
to burn you need to play this CD in your CDplayer, connect it to mixer and output to CDRW. think, that the result will diifer from the original and you can't just paste them together cos there will be difference.
may be i'm wrong...?
anybody did something like this before?
wheezer
7th February 2003, 13:01
@phono
here's how I'd do it:
extract the audio from cd with a audioripper such as windac32 - that's purely digital, so there should be NO loss of quality. play back the digital copy, and record your own mix, digitally. of one wants no loss of quality, the two pieces have to be put together with some multitrack recording program, although really I think that I could live with the loss of quality, because I prefer the idea of the mixing part being "analog".
after all, there'll be about 10 recordings per cd, so that shouldn't be that bad...should it?
phono
7th February 2003, 13:30
although really I think that I could live with the loss of quality, because I prefer the idea of the mixing part being "analog".
think that live will be more honourable (right word?)! :)
after all, there'll be about 10 recordings per cd, so that shouldn't be that bad...should it?
hope that souldn't bad! but we have already more than 20 persons in the list.. :)
Will O The Wisp
7th February 2003, 16:47
@Phono
i was thinking about computer cd recorder, not stand alone, audio only version...
you don't have to record the CD 'cos you already have .wav of every previous mixes.
phono
7th February 2003, 17:13
Will O The Wisp,
yes you already have .wav in your computer... but how you'll mixing it? file.wav from computer output to mixer, after that again to computer. so you'll bring more noises to mix again and again 20 times....
that problem have only one decision: all of us need to mix it together on one set of equipment at one time!
lol
wheezer
7th February 2003, 17:36
@phono:
yes, it's 20 something in total, but at 6 minutes per head, it'll be 2 cds...

pille'ocheoni
7th February 2003, 21:29

LEFTHANDLOU
7th February 2003, 23:40
Obviously not everyone is going to have the same programs and know how to get ideal sound. I think a really cool part of the cd project is that everyone gets to try their best to get the best sound possible. I think at the end we can clean it up with a compressor.
But everyone needs to make sure that the dont distort and shit. Again I think it is going to be fun at the end to hear what comes out reardless of whether its studio grade quality. The RAW sound is good, and at the end we can clean it up. Or maybe we can have cristian do the final mix and cleaning, I'm sure that brother has mass gear :)
phono
7th February 2003, 23:57

I think what you're referring to is what is called "pirttu" over here, it's not self made, but it's not legal either; 95% spirits sold in liter bottles, they are produced a lot in estonia at least, and have real brands like "royal pirttu" etc...
