I'm moving house after work today, leaving a lovely room in a shared house for a grotty little bedsit. I'm quite pissed off because I ran out of time to find an alternative after being messed about by a guy at work, who promised me I could move in his spare room then changed his mind at the start of the Bank holiday weekend, so I've been forced to move my stuff into this bedsit which is need of some serious renovation. If I didn't have so many records I could probably have sofa surfed till I could find something better but I need a base for my stuff. Anyway, I just felt like having a moan, rented accomodation sucks!

It's in the middle of town, Buckingham Street which isn't so bad. It's not even been cleaned by the previous occupant so I won't be settling in till the landlord has had it repainted but i doubt he'll get in cleaners so I'm going to have some work to do before i can stay there.

Renting with mates or other people is always a pain in the arse, I've found it's not so bad when it's just me and my girlfriend cos we both have the same agenda and are unlikely change our plans at the last minute.. Mind you.. let's see how I feel about the whole renting thing when I move to Hove a week on friday! The amount of money you need to put up front is crippling.. especially when you are waiting to see if you even get the deposit back on the last place..

Tell me about it, I've just handed over more than £600 for a room and the deposit from my last place is going to take another week to clear. I hate landlords.

ah i feel for you j.i.m, ive moved house so many times in the past few years, and those precious records we caringly hoard suddenly become a massive ball and chain (not to mention any other bits of music stuff). still its all worth it when you get it all set up again and have a nice cup of tea and a sit down

I'm moving on Friday. After 3 years exile from Ealing I'm going back there. Would prefer to stay in east London but moving in with my missus and will be walking distance to work so the + outweigh the - I reckon. Plus the flat will revolve around music with little to no involvement from TV, which is something I need so badly. Still, moving will always be a major hassle. My record collection has more than tripled in the past 3 years (approaching 2200) so I expect some backache this weekend. Plus rent, council tax etc will all be higher in the new gaff. But still, I expect it to be a positive move.

Well I've moved 17 boxes of records (aprox 1700) this evening up 2 flights of stairs and I'm knackered! At least that's the worst part over now, I'm going to have to wait till the weekend to get a new bed and start sorting everything out. I'm glad this is a short week at work thanks to the Bank Holiday. Good luck with your move ANT, hope your man with a van is as accomodating as the two guys who helped me, they looked a bit shocked after I'd said there was a 'few records'!

hehe.. I arranged my 'Man with a Van' today.. last time I moved I labelled all the boxes of Vinyl 'VERY HEAVY' and made sure I pointed them out before the fellar helped me to lift them, he just gave me a look as if to say "It's alright sonny, theres a real man here to do the lifting now" he went straight for a massive box lifted it and I could tell by the way his eyes bulged he wasn't quite expecting THAT heavy ;)
