okay after i thought about my last post on welcome to weedge for mike..
it has got me really thinking.. everyone i know in glasgow say "yeah berlin amazing for techno.. but do they just mean there the king of the club?

or do they mean there the king of techno? ie music, producers originalty..
because as far as i can see the dudes doing the shit in berlin are from the u.k, america and sometimes france..

so the argument is to give me mp3 for new music from berlin artists and explain.. because i want to understand the originalty of the avantguard movment.

I reckon it may have more to do with the cheapness of rental prices in Berlin and Glasgow... :)

marcia blaine school for girls
izu
truffle club
germlin
magic daddy
voltaic
sleepless crew
errors
surface emp

plenty more but i can't think of any... good glasgow labels are stuff, dalriada, subplate, point one.

berlin does have better beer, clubs that open later, nice looking girls, bratwurst etc.

pille'ocheoni

could have been the booze, but i had been drinking noen stop for two weeks before i came to glasgow, maybe the pints of stella after the plane glossed me over to believe there was a mystery. hehe either way, here are some things i hate about glasgow.

1. fucking expensive
2. haggis, or what ever the fuck that nasty shit is, oh and black pudding as well.
3. the food for that matter, other than that indian meal stoof got us, which made me pass out, and i missed a good night of partying.
4. and really expenisve, with my weak dollars.

Berlin pro's:

1. cheap!
2. hefeweizen!
3. i can smoke and piss and drink where ever i want!
4. wasnt to impressed wit the food, but the foreign foods were great.
5. oh and how could i forget jager
6. and warren's hospitality! you always have a place to stay here warren!

I've never been to either but I'd love to visit both. hopefully when I'm living Damside, I can catch the train to Berlin occasionally. Glasgows just too far.

That 'magical' edge was probably food poisoning.

Yer_Maw
25th August 2005, 22:17
i often wondered why taking a piss outside lands you in jail.Fair dues, but its not as if theres any public toilets anywhere. Just got to piss ourselves then?

although after living here and founding that the music scene isn't that impressiv - i love berlin

what i don't like is that techno here is most of time just consensus
people here are very opportunistic with the taste of the audience .. i.e. its always disco minimal stuff.

i hope the new tresor is back soon - it's strange that you mostly only fully realize the value of something when it's gone

and since i'm electro addict i hate that in berlin there are NO electro parties at all (about 2 per year)

spoon
26th August 2005, 11:36
the electro scene is dull as shit wherever you go. a bunch of thirtysomethings nodding heads to 808 samples....move on.

i think there is pretty good growd in london!
i'm not backwarded .. i'm looking for new school electro like volsoc, bitstream, claro intellecto, ben milstein, brothomstates and such.

spoon
26th August 2005, 11:51
fair enough, i lost all faith in electro a few years ago, both scene -wise and musically. the records plod, and going out was a soul destroying experience. the best i could figure was that the scene is just too old and insular. everyone is making music for each other, other producers and scenesters.....

that's my experience anyway.

actually, west end of glasgow is all continental with tables on the pavements these days, it's great. even in partick. tho i must admit the continental feelings were spoiled a bit by the alcoholic lady who sat down and chatted to us and calmly deposited a big puddle of piss on her seat before she left

funnily enough i actually find edinburgh is cheaper for decent food than glasgow, glasgow's gone all poncy these days with ridiculously overpriced food everywhere, you can still get decent scran for not too many bucks in the burg i find.

the arguments are correct but i'm not into music because of the scene that is representing the music but for the music itself.

aye to be fair the only places ive eaten out in glasgow are places like nice n sleazys and a couple other places which were cheap..so cant really compare to edinburgh.. as ive had some good scran for not too much money in da burg
