Lamacq also recalled bumping in to Peel at Glastonbury one year: "I said to him 'How's it going?' and he said 'Quite eventful. I've just shaken hands with someone dressed as a turd. I've never shaken hands with a turd before - unless you count Noel Edmonds.'"

There was a lot of sentiment about at Big Chill when Norman Jay played in Peel's traditional slot and spun Teenage Kicks. I was not impressed as he'd started with John Legend "Ordinary People" which is about the most "un-Peel" tune I can imagine.

Peel's traditional slot at Big Chill? he didnt play at the Big Chill when I was there.
Norman Jay is an appalling DJ. I wanted to pull out my own teeth when I heard him at the Big Chill when I went in 2002.

great Peel festival moment: him playing "Deeply Dippy" by Right Said Fred at Reading Festival in 1992. everyone sang along, it was lovely.

i went to the (mostly dreadful) big chill and he played lots of gabba, but the best moment was when he dropped 'sweet soul music', everyone went nuts. i'll always associate that tune with him now. very glad i went so i could be there for that

Yeah, you confused me with that too, Knid. Norman Jay played during Norman Jay's traditional slot, sunday lunchtime. The year before Peelie played a teatime slot in the Finlandia bar.
I take it you're not going to Carnival for the Good Times sound system then, Emma ? :-p
