or the ego bash
last weekend i was really pissed (happens not very often in that aggressive form) about some dj-egos who think they are some upcoming star or something. dunno. seems like some people are glued to the decks while 3 others are waiting or let you play for some short time just to capture the decks again while you´re not looking and so on....sounds like kindergarten, i know.
but does this only happen in my surroundings and i should get out of that or is that just some dj-decease? where´s the respect?
maybe i should do some djselfdefensetraining.
anyway where is that "lets rock the party together?" hm...seems like times are changin and the wolfs are getting hungry.
will only the biggest egos make the/their race?

I've heard similar stories, but not experienced anything like that (yet), thankfully.
on the other hand, I do live in the icy tundra that is finland...

I have experienced the same. usually my thing is if you are so pressed to play so much, you better be good. you have to earn your spot.

Hmmm sort of reminds me of Radio One's advert for their summer extravaganza of dance, they had this little black and white advert of loads of superstar nobjockeys, like Pete Tong et al turning up with their record boxes and having a bit of a mock fight over the decks in some warehouse.
Like they are trying to give themselves some sort of underground squat party vibe, you know DJs having a bit of a light-hearted tussle about who gets to play when and what tunes, bustling in and taking over the decks, chucking each others tunes about and the like, it was quite funny. Specially given that when the camera pulls out there's like one girl dancing - man if that was a real squat party they'd get busted immediately, don't they know you shouldn't fire up the party until at least 100 people arrive - duh!
Another telling thing is how fat all these superstars are all right old porkers (they're all starting to look like Dane Bowers), you'd have thought the cocaine would have slimmed them out a bit, I reckon its combining it with a big greasy fry-up the next morning that is causing them all to pile on the pounds

one of my friends went through something like that. he doesn't dj much, but he's really good. he was sharing the eveing with this guy that just kept yaking about how good he was and how my friend should get off the tables and let him spin. well, my friend couldn't have cared less about this guy, and that's actually what pissed him off the most. the guy got so pissed that he tried to start a fight because my friend didn't care who he was. i wish there was some sort of ego-popping drug. like you just slip an ego-bust pill into their drink and they mellow out. i think people forget that it's all about having a good time, not about who's got the shiniest coin.

i thought about that already. but its not always that way.
often i see that those people can´t enjoy the other sets of the dj´s
and party together. its like "i´m better. i don´t dance to that". sad.
the so called dj-in-you-syndrom.

yeah I figure that as soon as someone starts name dropping or saying who they know right off that bat 95% of the time they are lying. I started to go out to parties when I was 15, and I started to dj when I was 18. and I have met and or hung out with some middle level and big djs. but all the while I was taught that it doesn't matter who you know. and even if you know some 'big time dj' that you don't bring it up unless asked. I certainly miss having some one to play techno with though.

one thing about dj's
i could never respect a dj fully, until i've seen him dance :!
so lots of respect to Daniel Benavente - who is a great DJ, and he he sure can dance!
