LONDON (Reuters) - Police say more members of the public could be shot in error as they escalate their battle against terrorism and hunt for four men who tried to set off explosions on London's transport system last week.

The warning comes after police, who are engaged in one of the biggest manhunts in the country's history, mistakenly shot dead a Brazilian man on Friday, thinking he was a suicide bomber.

so watch out for dodgy looking would be suicide bombers and watch out for plain clothed policemen with guns!

According to sky news the police don't take this kind of matter lightly as it could seriously damage their career and pension prospects.

its worth reading all the information on Operation Kratos - the basis for the shoot-to-kill policy. This is based on "the experiences of the Israeli security forces, the guidance reportedly states that an officer can shoot a suspect in the head if it is thought he is a suicide bomber who poses an imminent danger to police or the public".

I can't believe we're taking advice on how to deal with this from the fucking Israeli's. Just because thay have experience of it doesn't mean their methods are right for us. I mean it's not as if their policies seem to be reducing terrorist attacks against Israel - this kind of action is merely adding more fuel to the fire if you ask me. Idiots

Oh well......I'm sure the Police know what they are doing.

We really should be supporting them, and be grateful for the help from our friends the Israeli's.

Fuck it there's too many people anyway. I reckon to avoid accusations of racism they should shoot an obviously northern European person for every swarthy gentleman they take down.

I don't agree, It's fairly obvious the Police got his one wrong. I support the Police in general and the function they perform in society. However as a citizen of a democracy I'm free to criticize specific incidents and policies. This incident, and this policy are fucked. I don't think we should be grateful for "help" from the Israeli's which creates a more, not less dangerous society for UK citizens.

Good idea knid... they should have "quotas" .. and maybe draft in some BBC people to teach them how to say "impartial" whilst keeping a straight face.

But the Israelis are sooo experienced - we'd be mad not to say "teach us how to murder as well as you"

Read some interesting stuff about that actually... they're trained at *not* murdering. With too many fatalaties resulting from IDF activity, the international pressure steps up.. whereas if they injure and humiliate instead, the international community tends to ignore it. I read that they were getting good at blinding people.

Maybe our police should try that instead.

It's now been confirmed, this guy was shot 8 times. 7 in the head and 1 in the shoulder.

Whilst being restrained.

Bit excessive, no?
