That came out sounding harsher than I meant it to. I just hope they push it forward a bit.

I thought it was quite well observed, not harsh in the slightest. :-)

I think they have beautiful sounds, and for once the press isn't bullshit.. they really do sound like a 70's Polaroid... but after 1 min of pretty much any track of theirs I get bored and flick to the next, that's why I like their short tracks most....

geogaddi formed part of the soundtrack to our daughter's birth, so it retains a special place in our brains. quality easy listening.

I don't agree with you Emma. Music has the right to the children it's for me their best work until date(very, very good). Also they got a blue vinyl E.p. ( "In a beatyful place in the country" I think ) wich is great too.
Waiting to hear the new stuffffff..!!!

i think the ep is my fave.
its all awesome stuff . and althought they havent taken huge leaps in their sound, geogaddi wasnt just a rehash of Music has the right.. i found it deeper and darker ...and had a different pallette of sounds (even if the wobbly synth lines were still in place).
still, i do hope the next one takes a few chances... hmm.. perhaps theyll go dubstep?

I think it´s some of the most beautiful electronica made - so I´m kind of curious how the new stuff sound. I´m really caught in a dream when I listen to their music. Strange.. but nice :)

me too. can't really understand the hype. there's a couple of good tracks on the MHTRTC lp, but geogaddi is just not my cup of tea. has a real 'being a kid on a wet day with wellies on and no-one to play with' vibe.:(

I don't dislike BOC but I HATE their hype. Nothing I've heard of their music I would describe as forward-thinking or (that other silly one) "experimental".
They sound like a very comfy pillow. I feel safe and warm when I listen to them...and consequently often drift off to sleep.
That said, I think they have their place.

It's music for the nicest 70's elevator EVER.

Speaking of hype, is it just me or am I right that Aphex also is way too much hype?? He made some great tunes, and has an interesting touch on music and video but that´s about it.. or?

Well I think Warp is the common factor in all of this, they do hype stuff beyond the point of credulity very often...

ok.. theyre not merzbow...
but they dont make me feel safe and warm.. i find them quite hallucinatory and often disturbing...
they evoke such a wierd sense of nostlagia its sometimes quite overwhelming: in a queasy kind of way.

Plenty of hype surrounding Mr. James, but he really is in a different league to BOC when we are talking about innovative music.

i just don't understand how any of this is innovative. i mean it's all brilliant to me, it's just when you're talking about this as art, you're really looking at a reflection of the people making the music and that's what you're getting deeper into.
so a confusing story later, how is aphex twin innovative and boards not?
listen to underground resistance, coil, boc & aphex and it's all good and making a strong artistic statement.
does innovative really just mean technically difficult?

yes, sometimes IDM seems to be "top of the pops" - like it´s the most advanced electronic music = must receive most respect..
Well, to me, some of the coolest music made is still the most simple to make.

It's all about Hi Scores, Music has the right is just a rehash of that anyway, there where a few good tunes on there.
Geodadi is fucking awful, sell indulgent waste of packaging IMO
They seem too much like a one trick horse, and I can't be bothered to get excited about them anymore.

I don't know how people can mention Richard James and BOC in the same breath. Fair enough, he has put out more than his fair share of poo.
But if you listen to SAW I (and polygon window, the bubblebaths, the analords...list goes on and on) it's still sounds like music from another world whereas BOC sounds like a cardboard cut out version of same.
It's the Ikea of the designer music world. sounds good if you don't listen too closely.

I hear what you are saying, and I'm certainly not suggesting that Aphex is the most innovative artist on the planet (total originality is an impossibility anyways). But I do agree with those that say BOC's music is very samey and "safe", certainly compared to a lot of the stuff Richard James has done over the years.
But of course, this is just an opinion after all - the only thing that matters is whether you enjoy listening to the music or not.
