Another board respectively guestbook is closed(overloadmedia). Why are there people to destroy all the boards because of their bullshit postings?
Is the Internet a place without respect?

while i'd love the world of christian vogel/super_collider/no-future to grow, i wouldn't like to see an influx of people here. i think that the current size and growth rate of this board has been fantastic and (not to get all soft with you guys) it actually feels kind of intimate. overload didn't seem to have that feeling. well, no sense complaining... it only spoils things.

yeah, I agree. we have a lot of members, but really only a core group of people really post here. I used to go on the OL board, but I never really felt I 'belonged' there. here is where I feel the most comfortable. that is why I only posted about 30-40 times there, where here I am the leading poster. and although I myself wouldn't mind meeting new people here, I can see why the OL board got shut down. and I don't want to see that happen here. there are a lot of techno websites around. and a few messageboards. but us and OL we're the biggest. and now with them gone, I don't want this place to go down because of petty bullshit. hopefully everyone new and old will have some respect. and know when not to post inflamatory messages and bring negative vibes here. I myself don't want to get 'sappy' but there has been an excellent response here in the last 6 weeks, which I would love to see grow. I just don't want to see it die due to reasons that killed the OL board.
I guess if I could give one piece of advice to new and old this would be it:
express yourself!! but do it in a way that doesn't cause hurt or cause negative feelings in someone and turn them away from this place.

and although we have crisitan and the queen mother emma here to moderate,
we must police ourselves to make sure no one gets too out of hand.

Ali here from Overload Media.

Yeah, we experienced rather high levels of bullshit on the Overload board from a few users over recent weeks, so we temporarily shut down the service. It was a shame but it seems a minority of users developed a few interpersonal issues with other members and also some problems with their manners. The board has recently been reopened - we're hoping a few days break has done the trick, because we've got better things to do than babysit a few people who keep throwing their toys out of the pram.

As pointed out, forums may have moderators, but it's up to members of the 'community' to respect the service and other users enough for it to be self-regulating.

Peace.

Indeed, the whole OL saga is well....disappointing.

Thankfully, one of your kind members pointed me in this direction just before it all went wonky... The thing I personally found with the previous board was that as several core members had known each other for so long that it was very hard to join in.

Anyhow, Hi....
I'm Owain
I like all sorts of things:music/art/languages....

hi Owain - i know u from the OL board. i'm pleased to see that it is once more 'live' again.

I feel i'm stating the obvious, when i write that the viewpoints written here,(and indeed on any message board) are the views of the individual writer, and not representative of the collective membership, but rather, 'atypical', as the largest body of membership of any board chooses silence, reads the threads, and makes no comment upon them.
(i came here for many months before i made my first post)

hehe, I've seen the same thing down twice with http://www.technoforum.de, looks like it'll be happening again soon coz things are again getting out of hand over there - these types of measures seem to last for some amount of time, based on the user turnover, total number of users, etc. of the board...

imho, the best way to ensure high quality of discussion in the internet in the same place for a longer period of time is through usage of a slash-type discussion system... nonetheless people there are complaining as well that "it ain't the same anymore"...

The main problem most boards encounter is a sudden large increase of new memberships. New people are always trying to impress each other and the current "oldbies" of the board, and for some reason usually do this by being very disrespectful, perhaps in the hope that they'll seem cool because they don't give a damn.

So long as the trickle of memberships is steady, like it's been here, besides the odd person who doesn't fit in, most people get into the group easily, and just go with the current atmosphere and stuff.

It's really elitist, but I am glad that this board is largely unvisited by the majority of internet people. It makes it more intimate, and you feel as if you know everyone.

Not only that, but it saves bandwidth costs for Erutufon ;)

I think a lot of it has to do with policy. I know the old No-Future site used to have a little bit of a statement before you entered, I can't remember the exact details of what it said.

But it laid how who, what and where the site was for promotion and discussion of, and I think that laid it down to new visitors what its all about. And although I can't find a similar statement on this new site, I know a lot of people joined previously would have seen that statement the very first moment they visited the site, and us such I think No-Future has quite a defined area of discussion.

Overload doesn't have any such policy, other than its tagline which says Electronic Music and Wired Culture, so technically hard house lunatics and flouro ravers , heck you could even drop post discussing the merits of the verse/chorus structure of the new Britney Spears single (well it is electronic music)...

Although like I said I can't see that statement on the new site, so whether this was a conscious decision to remove it with the new site, I suppose this forum is open to a similar diversifying of subject matter.

But there's also how such things are dealt with, several OL members went crazy and proved themselves to be very immature, perhaps a better and more prudent way would have been to just ignore it, with no replies it would soon drop to the bottom of the discussion list. As I said in ane earlier post, shouting about what you don't like is a very poor way of getting across what you do like...
