View Full Version : Wedding tunes
Okay, so this weekend I reached the zenith of my djing - I was asked to play at a wedding. It's summat I've always wanted to do and fucking hell it was a good laugh... lulling people into a false sense of security and then mashing it up a bit.
In fact, I want to do more of it. Any suggestions of guaranteed wedding party floor-rockers? These seemed to go down particularly well:
Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian
Beats International - Dub be good to me
Chic - Jack la Freak
Dee-lite - Groovers in the heart
Osymyso - Intro Inspection
Panjabi MC - Mudian to bach ke
DJ Phantasy & Gemini - Never try the Hippodrome
Bitmeddler - Shitmix 2000
Thomas Bangalter - Tracks on the rocks
Spanky Wilson - Sunshine of your Love
Longsy D - Skacid
B52s - Rock Lobster
New Order - Blue Monday
Flanger - Midnight Sound
Anita Ward - Ring my bell

i love dj-ing at weddings, great fun getting folk's dads up dancing. think of each song as a wee message to the bride and groom, keep them all well known belters and you cant go wrong

teenage kicks
ring of fire
another one bites the dust
candi staton - you got the love
(mix it into your love by jamie principle to keep the purists happy)
loads of atlantic soul, eg sweet soul music, try a little tenderness
a bit of proper ska always goes down well, some prince buster
billie jean
ballroom blitz
get it on
movin on up
lots of prince
blondie
the proclaimers - 500 miles

can't go wrong with the italo disco
e.g.
mr. flagio - take a chance
flirts - passion
lipps inc. - funky town tends to tear the roof off events such as this one

watch all the 80s teen movie with molly ringwald in and you've pretty much got a wedding DJ's music selection down, plus Come on Eileen(though that may well be in one of the 80s teen movies I can't remember.

At the last wedding I went to, Thriller produced a flurry of bad imitation dance moves, which was excellent for a laugh.

i went to a mates wedding on sat..
got a wicked hour of Altern-8, LFO, Shades of Rhythm, Orbital, Powerpill packman, Trip to Trumpton... at the same time a giant rubber ball appeared on the dancefloor and game of giant-rubber-football kicked off. It was good.
Everyone had babies as well...

I dare say she sung it as well...but here you go...
Artist: Dolly Parton
Song: D. I. V. O. R. C. E.
Lyrics :
Our little boy is four years old
And he’s quite a little man
So we spell out the words
We don’t want him to understand
Like t-o-y, or maybe s-u-r-p-r-i-s-e
But the words we’re hiding from him now
Tears the heart right out of me
Chorus:
Our d-i-v-o-r-c-e becomes final today
Me and little j-o-e will be going away
I love you both and this will be
Pure h-e-double-l for me
Oh, I wish that we could stop this d-i-v-o-r-c-e
Watch him smile
He thinks it’s christmas
Or his fifth birthday
And he thinks c-u-s-t-o-d-y
Spells fun, or play
I spell out all the hurtin’ words
And I turn my head when I speak
Cause I can’t spell away this hurt
That’s dripping down my cheek
Repeat chorus

Believe it or not, when two friends married last year at a council registry office, those two songs were in the list of "approved" music for use during the ceremony. There were others too that were just as inappropriate.

with some of the weddings I've been to, people like John Holt always get on the play list... I'm sure the older generations at these weddings choose the music ;)

'Enjoy the Silence' if only for the highlighted line.
Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can’t you understand
Oh my little girl
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
