i'm well looking forward to it, and i reckon it's going to kick the arse off the first one. i never really gave much of a shit about that. tim burton, on the other hand... i would happily spend whole days and nights sitting in the bushes outside his house and rifling through his rubbish. same with johnny depp, for that matter. does this mean i'm gay?

How? How can one still make it better than the original? The originals vibe is Spot on and thats not because i have rose tinted goggles on. Its because, Grandpa Jo gets out of bed after 30 years of being bed ridden and starts dancing. Now thats inspirational. Also, what about Mike TV, he gets turned to a fractal and re-assembled. Wot about Agustus Gloop up the pipe.

I will wait and see. But you cant fuck With Gene Wilder.

can you really call one a remake of the other? nads. they're both 'remakes' of the book

penciLneck
15th June 2005, 11:59
thats pish thembuzz, you know its a remake of the movie, look out for the ripoffs.

I think they are really evil, its like hey kids don't watch silly old black and white movies they are old fashioned. Here watch this special effect laden piece of crap with your favourite dumbass actor. And we have a new generation that references the remake instead.

real slack way of making money too.

I watched 'fucking amal' last night, can you imagine a hollywood remake of that? Shit, its probably been done.

That statement is filled with too many errors to mention. They are not remakes of a book.

well, it's simply a case of hollywood money people like brands that are already familiar, this is why there are almost no original blockbusters these days. it's kind of sad.

re tim burton: edward fucking scissorhands makes me want to kill, and i'm a non-violent type.

the original has quotes like...

i didn't, actually, but thanks for letting me know

any case, i'm still looking forward to burton's version. i can't think of anyone better placed to take on charlie and the chocolate factory - mel stuart just didn't capture the slightly sinister undercurrent in the book, and gene wilder was too damn zany for wonka, whom i took to be a rather imposing figure, perhaps even a little frightening. wilder just made him a bit stern sometimes. i have faith in the burton/depp alliance. it's never let me down before

I think they are really evil, its like hey kids don't watch silly old black and white movies they are old fashioned. Here watch this special effect laden piece of crap with your favourite dumbass actor. And we have a new generation that references the remake instead.

yeah, there's something inherently crap about the remake thing, i'll give you that. i wouldn't go calling them evil, though. anyone who'll see a remake as the definitive version would probably have gone their whole life without seeing the original anyway - at least a few might be prompted to check it out

anyway, it's the way of the world. whether you like it or not, culture changes, tastes change and something that spoke volumes to one generation might mean shit-all to the next. boo-hoo

With rumors of a remake on the horizon, we feel it is important to act now before another generation of movie-goers can be lulled into believing that Charlie's grandfather is anything other than a ratbag industrial spy bastard.

lol

I think wilder was pretty scary in the original, very true to the wonka of the book.

I still reckon you will be let down, but we'll see. I'm confident that they will murder it.

Yeah, that film really was a pile of shit - especially depressing since the original was so brilliant.
