I've stayed 'at home' listening to Sim's tracks, and the chance to see him live at the Orbit will be great for me! I never heard Liebing DJ bevor, but I heard from other girlfriends in Germany, that he is very danceable to.

The Orbit is 'my' local tekno club, and myself & my fellow tekno-loving girlfriends go here as often as we can for a full tek-workout on the dancefloor.

I find this venue superb - and here's why I like it:
there's coffee in the coffee bar *njami*,
sensitive bouncers, who always see women to their taxi-cabs, a warm atmosphere from fellow tek-heads
the Visuals are always totally distracting *g ,
and from the two tiers of balconies, u have an excellent view of the dj and decks (for those chin scratchers out there).
and right at the end NO-ONE wants to leave! it seems that we haven't had enough, and always leave wanting more....

I'm going to be there on 16th Nov, with a small girly posse. Perhaps we will see us there? :!

i don't understand what u mean by second generation dj, weishaupt!

also - we aren't over-exposed to Liebing here.

nevertheless, i like to make my own mind up about a dj/producer, and am very much looking forward to going to Orbit on Saturday for Sims/Liebing, and then on to a free party courtesy of one comfy Dave Sofa & Company.

bruno brooks - afaik - a dj - also on radio1
don't care much for this pigeonholing though *g
it's either musik i like, or musik i don't like to hear/dance to

as for 1st or 2nd generation dj's - i have never heard anyone use this critical terminology before...does it refer to time/age? is this an exclusively german term??

väth, spoon, feos, talla, dag, wagenknecht............
these guys are the first generation of frankfurt djs who growes up on the people and on the "scene".....................

if techno "starts" in germany, these guys represented it.............

liebing is part of the 2nd generation.................... ..

any questions?

Sheridan

1st generation and 2nd generation is the same of 1st or 2nd wave of artists. think of detroit: people like juan atkins, kevin saunderson, derrick may are all considered first wave/ generation detroit artists. they were the first to come out of there. then people like jeff mills, mike banks, claude young, stacey pullen are all considered second wave/ generation detroit artists. coming out a bit after the first.

Ben has been sans pony tail etc. for 18 months now - and I (the promoter of the club) took the pictures for our website. I e-mailed them to invisibleplanet when she told me she was unable to come to the Sims+Liebing night due to her being ill.

²sheridan i couldn't go to the last two Orbits (pics above) and
unfortunately i missed Sims/Liebing, due to a very unpleasant head-cold, and for Väth/Nasty I was in Nottingham for Hawkins/Benavente.
Someone who works there, kindly sent those excellent fotos to me, when he heard that I couldn't make it to Sims/Liebing because of my head-cold.
Another good friend who did go, foned me next day, saying "where were u? u missed a corker! the place was packed! Liebing played for 3 hrs! 3 HOURS! He was so funky. u should have brought your germs..i was looking for u everywhere..." and so on.
NO i'm not on the guest list *lol*

by all accunts, Liebing played a magnificent set, of hard, funky techno, with booming basslines, and some superbly placed scratching. The whole crowd at the orbit were filled with pleasure and showed their appreciation by dancing uncontrollably, with people dancing anywhere they could find a space. the dj's were dancing, the crowd were dancing, and even the invisible chap who is often behind the visuals was dancing *gggg*
there wasn't a dry body in the house

and to quote my friend "who gives a fuck about making a genre classification! it's electronic music that makes u wanna shake your booty for hours...the chin strokers should learn how to fucking dance!"

nice one Nate ;)

His records are just boring...his sound is boring...he´s the originator off the frowned on word "Schranz"

i heared hes a very good dj....respect, but that was it

I have seen Liebing at Atomic Jam in Birmingham & to be honest he is a lovely, friendly bloke, but I found his music extremely monotonous. I suppose he had it quite hard because he was following on from Ben Sims or Dave *Lark*.

wheezer
22nd November 2002, 17:01
yeh I mean his technique was flawless when I heard him, but that may well have actually been a problem in this case for my ears, because since his records were all the same kind of bland thumping stuff, the only thing that could've brought some spice into it for me would've been some more interesting tricks, some beat doubling etc., but imho even that was predictable with him, he just did the same quick off-beat double over and over and over again with different rekkids.

I know a lot of people that seem to think that perfect mixing & technique are crucial, but Liebing is just a case in point for the opposite actually being true imho...

Aside from all that, he does seem like a nice enough guy, but that's not really of any importance.... it's the muzak that counts :)
