so I just found out that I am going to scotland from dec 26 to jan 7. I was wondering if any of the scotland no-futre boarders might want to get together for a beer and some techno. are there any club nights or parties going on then? I figured there would be some new years events. can anyone let me know of anything? thanks!
oh I will be in bonny bridge area. near stirling and glasgow.

bonnybridge is the focus for a huge amount of UFO activity for some reason.
either
1. there are lots of mad people who like to hallucinate/make up stories there
or
2. the UFO's are deliberately trying to fuck with people's heads by appearing somewhere as inconsequential as bonnybridge
i subscribe to option 2, as i personally know a very non-mad person who used to live there. with his mum, he saw a large silver cigar-shaped object floating over his garden when he was a kid.
but now i've told you, you won't see one, cos they never appear to people who look for them.

I had a similar experience. When I was about 3 or 4 I was in the back garden and I looked up and seen a cigar-shaped object floating above my head, I then realised what it was........................... ....

Anyhoos.....if you're around Sheridan then you can PM me here or the OL board with your details and I can send you my mobile and we can hook up . I think I may have most of Christmas off and return to work on January 3rd. Let me know. btw are you visiting your relatives in Uddingston? If so, I stay approx 15 miles from there (if that) and could easily find you there. We ain't doin' any parties after Dec 13th (Nurture Crimbo party with Dexorcist and some over faces) and then we are off until January (I've not commited to any gigs as such, and may keep it that way).
Let me know.....

actaully my mom is from uddingston, (that is where I learned to walk and kick a soccer ball). I am not too sure of what is going down. I am going for my aunts wedding but I was hopping there might be a techno night or two happening. is there nothing going on for new year?? I would expect there to be something going on in glasgow or edinburgh. either way it would be nice to hook up and at least get a pint. I will let you know more details as I get them. all of this has happened quite suddenly so my family is just playing it by ear.

humbug! i hate hogmanay - i hate being expected to have a good time.
it always involves expensive parties which are mostly worth avoiding if you ask me. last year in glasgow the 'optimo' party was good by all accounts, but tickets sell fast for this, because it's seen as trendy and electroclash, which it sort of is, but also isn't. suffice to say you will see a lot of weird haircuts and 80s clothes. but dj twitch is one of the best, the man has taste.
there's always wandering the streets, people seem to enjoy that - in edinburgh, that means you get to spend it with lots of australians. in glasgow, you get to spend it with lots of neds. but it's quite mad seeing the streets of glasgow given over to revelry and sound systems. slam usually do a sound system if you like that sort of thing. just try not to get stabbed, and avoid george square, which is ned central ibiza trance house shite.
there are always various illegal gigs in glasgow which vary in quality. usually the music is pretty bad at these, but it's where i myself often end up, fighting to play half an hour of funky tunes between all the boring kack.

@Sheridan,
It's cool. Bitch One is right in his ascertations as Hogmany in Edinburgh doesn't cater for anyone that is Scottish - it's proper crap. Glasgow has three or four official sites around the place, if you were in touch we would keep you right. We've never had bother with neds at New Year (maybe other times :) ), but it ain't that bad unless you do stray near Goerge Square or the High Street car park!! The Merchent city is usually cool though, but there will be plenty of parties goin' anyway. We can hook up a couple of days before if you are about anyway so I can show you the rec shops etc if you like. It's always good, and Glasgow can offer you pretty much anything you are looking for. Ironically, you will get more quality American records here than you would in the States!!! Plenty of nice rarities in the second hand stores - whatever your poison.
Hopefully you will be around to witness people having office parties as well, as that is beyond funny (observing at a distance of course).
If you are into your history and stuff I can do that too, and take you round the older parts of Glasgow. I do it everytime that someone is up here playing so I could probably get a job as an official tour guide!!!
Defo get in touch though. Format K and I kept missing each other when he was up, but that was just a bit of bad luck - I'm sure he can fill you in on Glasgow anyway before you get here!!

You wouldn't be saying that had you watched an episode of "chewing the fat". It's one of these programmes that everyone in work imitates, just as irritatingly as Ali G perhaps, and then falls into the "to be missed" category. Although I do condone the abuse of ned culture as they are lil bastards, and are so uniform and alike they are like little capped ants scuttling the streets.

thanks guys. it will be real nice to get back to scotland. I was there in 2000 and had a blast. I spent a lot of money at rub a dub in glasgow and underground solution in edinburgh. hopefully I will have some money to drop but I highly doubt it. I graduate from school on dec 20 then I move back to dc and then jump right on a plane for scotland. but we will see. I will definitley get in touch. thanks.

Yer_Maw
7th November 2002, 13:02
dunno last years unit at new year was a good shindig. im guessin that those 'crazy' characters at that knudge knudge wink wink place. ( i dont know why the secrecey it obvious everyone, including the relavent authorities know where it is, not to mention its a shithole!) will no doubt be having a new year party. oh and sheridan make sure you get some buckfast in when ur over. its the best alcoholic beverage oot. especially at that time when the alcohol shops just open in the morning...

7th November 2002, 13:13
i hate bucky. it's mingin. jaegermeister is far superior, and twice as strong.
Yer_Maw
7th November 2002, 13:25
ah but does jaegermeister actually make u mad, like the buckton? i wouldnt know. where do i purchase this, so called rival to the buckto?
bitch one
7th November 2002, 14:32
let's just say - thank god neds don't drink it.
plenty folk around here far better qualified than me to talk on the subject of jaegermeister. it's crazy shit, tastes like medicine, yes it makes you mad. dunno where you get it in scotland, i've had it only when visiting dj's brought some, or when i visited germany. i'm sure you can get it here tho.
bob
7th November 2002, 14:37
jager is well good, I think it is the nearest thing to distilled buckie....just imagine buckie but 40 odd percent! here we go!

@yer maw, I was thinking that there would probably be a party there, theres not much chance of being bothered on New Years eve

Jaegermeister - It's pretty much like hoegarden is it not. Wheat beer just ain't that popular on this island I'm afraid. Correct me if I'm wrong in any of my assumptions.....
Buckfast = instant arsehole or "Instant Bigot, just add Buckfast".
It's embarassing to see anyone in my company drinking it, it's perhaps more of a deep-rooted shame of having diced with it in my younger years. However, I'm glad that is where I left it - many don't.
Vodka provides ample carnage!! :)

Contrary to popular UK belief Jager is NOT beer.. The nearest thing to it on this island is Aftershock.....
Distilled Buckfast, yeah that's a pretty fair description...
Gives you one hell of a sore head in the mornin... I must say, if last weekend was anything to go by....:( :( :(

My assumptions have been corrected. tasted like Hoegarden to me....

??? hoegarden is not 40% ethanol, for starters
Yer_Maw
7th November 2002, 17:05
nah basic, buckfast doesnt make people arseholes it makes arseholes more of an arsehole (did i say arsehole too many times in that sentence). Buckfast has gets a bad rap and if you get by the idea that its for scumbags only its the best booze for maddnes you can get here.
id like some jaegermiester tho! can u get it freely in the us? ive got a friend coming over from New jersey soon.
Sheridan
7th November 2002, 17:15
yeah you can get jaeger in the us very easily. maybe I should bring some on my trip to scotland. hopefully find a techno party and ring in the new year right.

I guess you are right in that ascertation. I probably have just seen too many things go wrong with people not controlling themselves after consuming it though. However, I sat in the company of one of my best friends and watchedhim drink three bottles, yes, three and he was no worse for wear.
I reckon it must feed on vibes......and can create them too!!

i have 22nd to 28th December free for fun and games, however i won't be able to afford to travel to bonnie Scotland to meet u, so i hope u have a lovely time! My Grandfather moved from the Isle of Skye to Stirlingshire when he was little, and he told me it is a beautiful shire, and i find the scottish accent is so beautiful from those parts. Are u originally from that area?

thanks for those kind words.
no I was born in america but my parents are from scotland. my dad is from glasgow. and my mother grew up in uddingston. my dad was a scientist and got a job with the US government so my parents and older sister moved to the dc area. a few years later I was born. my aunt used to live in stirling but has now moved to bonny bridge with her fiance. scotland is a beautiful place indeed. I have been thinking of moving there sometime in the near future. but it all depends on what is going on here. too bad we can't meet. some other time I suppose.

yeah well that is kind of what I was getting at. I have seen quite a bit of scotland already, so now my goal on this trip was to hook up with some of the scotish no-future collective and grab a pint and HOPEFULLY hear some techno. it has been so long....please tell me there will be something. I need to ring in the new year right!
