i'm thinking of getting a pc laptop, mostly for using ableton live, and playing mp3s - ie to use as a 3rd deck in a dj setting. anyway, just wondering what one does for soundcards when using a laptop? any advice at all please, i don't have a clue.

there have been a couple of threads on the board before about this, especially external usb cards...Im running the demo of Live! but I only have the internal soundcard that came with my laptop....I need another (external) one so that I can pre listen to clips, rather than having to memorise the bastards (its like DJing with no cueing!) ...if I had to do it all over again I would get a bespoke laptop from one of the suppliers you see advertised in the trade papers....watch the hard disc data access rate, my lowly 650mhz celeron 192mb laptop is most let down by a slow access rate that lights up the "harddisc overload" light in Live!...Im going to buy Steinbergs "Remix" the cut down Live! for £30 when I can find a copy in Glasgow...
