dont go to tesco's they are rubbish.
damn straight...
today i successfully avoided tesco's...after 2 weeks of eating amazing food i decided that upon my return to our 'fair and pleasant land (TM)(C)(R)' i would stay away from all that corporate nonsense food.
so i went to the nice little lebanese restaurant / fresh juice bar instead.
bravo me :)

yeah, whats the story katie...ilovejamtarts. i was just trying to warn others of the degradation the western world foists upon its citizens, not only in the realm of jam tarts, but in all aspects of life.

Near my house I have two choices unless I want to get on the bus.. Waitrose or Lidl.. I mean how opposite of the spectrum can you get.. you either come out feeling raped by one or infected by the other.

lidl's is a good super market, wont have a word said against it.
i remember great days in brighton, sending my mate max off to lidl with a fiver and him coming back with bags full of food..
they used to do a nice cereal, like the jordans cereals, but it cost about 3 pence.

lidl's do some quality german products. its cheap, and as long as you dont buy the fresh veg (which generally is rubbish) - the other stuff is great, the olive oil is CHEAP (for example).

Netto is a kind of Lidl-esque place in the North. The sort of place Peter Kay is always talking about.
Lidls is miles away so I have never felt the need to go there. I used to do Asda (Asbo?) but not now Walmart are in charge.
I have stopped buying supermarket meat and eggs completely and now only go to the organic, free-range butcher in Hanover, Archers - they are amazing and it is SO MUCH CHEAPER, and the difference in quality is unbelievable.
I also stock up on dried goods from Infinity Foods. If I could find a decent greengrocer then I could conceivably swerve Sainsbury's altogether apart from the odd visit.

The Lidl by me is really depressing.. really low stained polystrene ceiling, half the lights don't work so you end up squinting at german tins in the twillight not really knowing what you might be buying.. it's quite nighmarish actually, a bit like a Cronenberg film or something.

Can you not get some sort of organic boxed veggie delivery in Brighton? Mind you the problem I always had with them in London was they only deliver during the day - no good if you're at work and what's the chances that you aren't at work if you live in the second most expensive city on the globe - nil...

Jam Tarts - why don't you make em yourself?
Dead easy, you can even go halfway house - buy some readymade short crust pastry from the supermarket (you can get some pretty decent stuff these days) but even so a cheap one will do - it's only jam tarts innit...
Roll it out - use a pastry cutter to chop up some circles - plonk them in a greased tart tin - stick whatever jam you like in em, lemon curd or whatever - your tarts can be as cheap or a lush as you like...
There's some outlay, you'll need a pastry cutter and if you don't buy ready-rolled pastry - a rolling pin and a couple of tart tins..
Job's a good un... tart heaven is just a short step away...

There's a Lidl about to be built just down the road from me. Half of me is pleased cos it will open up entirely new possibilities for dinner... on the other hand, we currently have a nice big open space that makes the area seem roomy (tho it's covered in low level rubble at the moment)... and I'll bet any money that this Lidl looks shite.

ive tried and they have been either fucking expensive or really unreliable. especially the brighton one 'realfoods direct' - absolutely rubbish. we used one that was from somerset so it's hardly environmentally friendly...i dont like the idea of someone subsituting what ive asked for with something i dont want either. all round the fruit and veg box doesnt work for me.

There's a Netto in Peckham. I wish we had that sort of place in Brighton when I was on the dole - £6 gin!
Round Dulwich Village, where I sometimes go for a run in the morning cos it's nice and leafy, the thousands of Waitrose 'OCADO' delivery vans are starting to freak me out. Each one is done up like a different fruit, and they're so weird and pod-like, it's like an alien robot army or some shit.

Hehe.. I remember Hardy surviving on Spiderman ice l0llies and assorted easy-bolt bifta alone.. and something he 'cooked' which could only described as 'Gumbo'.
ah, the kemptown gumbo...a classic..
the most memorable was made by james stephenson, featuring a huge amount of birds-eye chillies..
i rushed off that more than pretty much any drug ive taken...
(p.s. i think the official term was 'easy-bulk-bifta', but who's counting eh?)

heheh Chelmsford speak.. I've heard it... I remember Hardy having to slow down and explain each word of that phrase seperately as well.. and I still couldn't understand him. Essex people should have tattoos on their forehead to warn others or something like a diabetic bracelet.
