i pressed the 16:9 button on my camera for the first time, but it didnt seem to come out widescreen. not sure what i didnt wrong, is it not supposed to be like that? sorry dont know much about ratios, just click record, i should do tho.

What do you use for editing? Final cut or Avid or....?

Normally Final Cut, but for for this i used imovie. Final cut is wicked but i like the imovie vibe sometimes, for homevideos its ideal.

I don't know about imovie, but it's pretty simple to change the aspect ratio in Final Cut..

Just take the finished quicktime movie which you exported from iMovie, drag it into the timeline in final cut, double click so it pops up in the Viewer window, select the "Motion" tab, open the "distort" section, in the aspect ratio bit change it to -33, render it out, then export it... . bingo! Lovely letter boxed version. Filmic vibe.
