i went to see this band last night and they were really lovely. smilingly melancholic, country-tinged and mildly psychedelic, i suppose they could be accused of being a bit bland except that the sheer positive energy beaming out from each band member was totally infectious. hell, even i was clapping along in places.

supporting was a great band called the pipettes - basically the B-52s with more shirelles influences than new wave. im a sucker for pretty girls in matching outfits doing 50s inspired dance routines.

slightly different name - but are your sister-in-law's band selling out venues all over britain and getting heavy airplay on radio one?

ha ha, I wish, but they have been going for about 6 years, they are meant to be playing Glastonbury in the Jazz tent or such like...

One of my best mates has been involved with them from the start ,doing engineering bits and bobs for them. Doesnt do so much since they signed to Heavenly...What i have heard i have really liked. He went to see them support Athlete (shite band imo) a couple of weeks back and said they they got more applause than the headliners...They are by all accounts really nice people and I'm glad things are going well for them.

yes - they are all on the large side with lots of hair, a great look for a band!

the crowd was definitely on their side last night and the lead singer said it was the best gig they had ever done. i lost my mobile phone during the gig and was a bit distracted by that but even so they managed to keep my attention and make me smile.

found the phone afterwards too so all good.

Caught the Magic Numbers last show of their tour in Oxford on Saturday. I was well impressed. They put on a great show and it was positive vibes throughout. They really are a very happy bunch of people. If any of you get the chance to see them (think they are playing Glastonbury as well as some other festivals), make sure yoiu do!!! ;)

Magic Numbers collaborate on one track on the new Chems album. It's brilliant. I've also found myself loving 'Galvanize' quite a lot. Am I getting middle aged?
