...mhm...i was wondering ´bout my tb303...last week i tried to fill it with some random patterns by removing the batteries (instead of programming it) ...ok everywhere in the www u´ll read : ...leave the 303 a few minutes (on some machines a few hours) without batteries and powerconnection, put them in and u get random patterns...well, i took them out for ´bout 3 days!!!...and my old patterns are still there!...weird :illin: ...is there a trick for randomising the patterns like connecting pin blahblah to pin blahblahblah like u do on a pc-mainboard to reset the bios ?!?...perhaps i had to leave it without power a week or so...
pah!...don´t wanna wait so long...any suggestions?

i just can say, that my one randomized the patterns after some hours (15-24) without batterys...no tricks no jokes

maybe someone modded it and put a battery on the pcb? that's all i can think of.

no...no mods at all...the pre-owner (a guitarist) has left it ´bout 20 years in his cellar...he had no use for it! so it looks like new :)

then maybe your capacitors are just mutant super-capacitors that take much longer to lose their charge... who knows? all i can think of (which i'm sure you've thought of too) is to just leave the batteries out for a longer period of time. or throw it down the street. but i think the first idea sounds much more palletable.

are you all really using tb303's?
can you still make interesting sounds with it?
(for todays ears)
can't believe that.

i'm not personally using a 303. i had a friend that was obsessed with them and lived the acid-traxx life vicariously through him. i'm not too fond of the sound anymore. it's funny that now when you use it for it's intended purpose (as a real bass line) it takes on a new character. that's music evolution for you...

I´ve sold my one half year ago. Had it over 6 years and it was big fun! In the last 3 years i had it, i made maybee 3 tracks with it.
But it rocks to play around with it, synced to a 606 or 808...that was just fun with my mates

I don't know...leaving the batteries out with the "hope" that the machine will create some wacked out pattern seems like a waste of time. In 12 hours you could load that machine up with 64 new manic creations that you knew were good because you programmed them yourself. I hear far too many tracks were the grooves don't seem to line up and I always wonder if the person really programmed it that way because they didn't know how to get it the way they wanted, or it was just a random one that they thought was kind of cool.
the heart of the machine will march on.

yes..iknowiknow!...but it was only for the funpart of it...i never tested this "feature" so i just wanted to check it out...i know how to program this kind of machine so that it sounds like i want it to...i normaly don´t use it to programs those sqelchy acid-lines...only for the bass!!...oouahmuoaahmm...fat bass!...like ´n oo-boat...hehe. nothing else...let the bass kikk! :) thanx anyway

my 606 used to freak out like that when i left the batteries out. 9/10 though the patterns were complete noise.

Thanks for the props AJ, but I have to admit there was no 303's on that Surfin' Superior dbl pack. I do know how to program them, but when I made those tracks, you're only hearing a mc-202, sh-101 and novation BassStation rack. the whole thing was made in about 2 weeks and I was trying to really make the gear that I had sweat. It was only my second release and I was going nutty from locking myself up with the gear.....ahhh the memories

i'd much rather take a 202 over a 303. 202 is much more dynamic, and you can make more than one style of music with it. you can tweak some really nice kicks out of it too. blipity bleepity goodness... too bad they slapped din-sync instead of midi on it. after that stupid move roland kept fucking up. can you say groovebox?

wow...i really thought theres a 303 used in these tracks. But i´ve never heared a MC 202 yet.
And i was wondering how you programmed some of these acidic lines in it.
Anyway its great:!

202 is a beauty to program. Same style as the 303. After setting the length of the pattern, you put in your pitches, and can then put in the gate time for each note and if there's accent or glide. It has a different portamento than the 303 though. The digital screen on the 202 allows for precise knowledge of what your pattern contains on each step.
one of my favorites on it is the "tap" feature. you pound in your groove in realtime, but can then go into step edit and manually quantize the gate times to make the grooves lock dead on to where you want the notes to change up.
If the 202 allowed more than 2 patterns to be held/recalled it would be so much more powerful. It's still on of my faves even though I haven't had one for over 4 years.
now, gotta keep this thread on topic.. back to the 303.

I´ve read about that handicap...it was one reason i´ve never seriously thought about to buy one, although i´ve heared much good opinions.
back to the 303
My resoance filter was broken, so i´ve opened the case. Inside of it you can act the intesity of the desk-controllers with a screw driver.
Thats very interesting when you want to move away a bit from the standart 303 sound!
cheers aj

mhhm...how do u set the length of the pattern first?...i always put in the pitches first, then the step length and gatetime...i like the copy and paste feature!!...i miss this on the tb303...
...i didn´t figured out what the 5 modes will do: 0-rest; 1-stacc; 2-non leg etc...never heard any changes...
btw. how do u manage the syncdelay?...i always program patterns with the first step minus 1. so instead of steplength 12 i put in 11 and set the gate to 0...then it will be in sync... :D
