marcin, you should change your name to shit stirrer, heheh.
so many things in this thread are criticisable, they obviously don't know their arses from their elbows, eg 'jamie lidell's supercollider is more interesting than vogel's stuff' - haha.
still it's nice to know that not everyone likes the same things, else the world would be a very boring place.
wired
12th March 2002, 11:03
hehe... just boring thing there...
yeees these guys are the best i've seen today *laughing*
i think they only knew how brighton is to write because it stands in the topic... they're soo stupid... but normal... like the discussion between normal sound (brighton etc) and "schranz" (progressive shit which is called so here in germany)
it's just boring...

Thats funny...classic example of somebody who really knows very little about the music or the people involved (even though they think they do). What is the Brighton sound v's Birmingham???? Who comes from Brighton apart from Cris, Justin and Ibi? none of them actually come from there originally anyway.
At the end of the day, let kids be kids...
professor
12th March 2002, 11:41
what a silly discussion, in my opinion they are both great artists
with a totally different style.
and each of this town has surely more than one typical sound
the sound does not depend on the town so why should they compete each other.
marc snow combines the sounds of both towns
thanx marcin for keeping us updated
let it be, there is no reason for such a discussion
enjoy your life sven

i really don't get this whole discussion what subgenre of techno is better than the rest. why aren't people more open minded?
i am very much into the no future sound but i also go to hard techno clubs (if i can find any, seeing as i live in london.)
at the last ugly funk it became very clear again that hard and wonky techno crowds don't mix. many people there seemed to be of the chin-stroking type who drink beer and watch the visuals all night at warp parties.
That upset me a little to read such whining - criticism is a right - not everyone has to like everything - andanyway I live in Barcelona! - as Tarrida says , the other labels are scottish and HUGELY scottish
As for these guys saying I got no soul or creativity - err....... I sold it to get my doggone records out - an I still aint gettin ma monies worth!
Tony Surgeon probably doesn't EVER think about any kind of Brighton vs. Birmingham debate ,. like I never do ... he is an artist and a pretty talented guy at that... he's doing his thing..
its pretty strange more than anything to think that we have a Big Bad Brighton sound!!!!
that make me giggle
I'm tiny for goodness sake - Neils pretty big though , and he hates it when people think he is English

We have the video evidence from Uglyfunk, Sigma, If you send us your address, We'll send you the video, I challenge you to spot the chinstrokers.....Looked more like insane pogoing to me, Grant was even considering stagediving at one point....or was it you didn't make it past the back room...Nothing wrong with that 'course, I spent most of my night in there checking out Cutout and Cutlass Supreme.....
As far as arguing about musical genres, I'm quite happy for everyone else to hate what I like, just means the record shop won't have sold out of the records I want...BTW Sigma, I wouldn't say UF was just wonky, we've always wanted to keep it on the floor....Banging but devious.....
Killer tomato
12th March 2002, 13:50
ouch! Just read from the said forum...looks like people with too much time on their hands....we could all scream at eachother for months saying blue is better than red...remeber, music is objective, you aint never gonna convince the cheezy metaller that your priceless collection of 2CB twelves are better than his whitesnake picture disc....which would effectively be a very simelar argument.....What that guy was saying about really sequenced stuff...I do all my stuff live pretty much, and you can still do well broken up stuff live, it's all in how you do it...hmmmm, too much time and an internet connection......

Lady E
12th March 2002, 15:18
more totally unpleasant + unnecessary debate
in what sense are "birmingham" or "brighton" in competition? or even valid as subgenres?
apart from the "birmingham" artists undoubtedly sell more records than any of our lot. do we care? no
for fucks sake . people like + make different music to each other. is that so hard for you to understand gunjack?

I was hoping someone else would finally mention the scottish thing! I would like to think that it is possible to stroke ones chin, laugh and dance at the same time (at least I'll be easy to spot on a dance floor!)
Killer tomato
12th March 2002, 16:34
What, is that like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time?
Lady E
12th March 2002, 16:38
and that hard vs wonky techno crowd thing that sigma mentions...it depends what mood you are in as to whether you will go mental on the dance floor or hang by bar. i did a bit of both at the SES UF recently. much as i am loath to defend warp, their nesh parties were as free of chin stroking as its possible to be - at electrowerkz too and really having it.

What type of night does Haywire come under then ? Cos Wevvers was playing electro/techno that I've heard in loads of usual techno clubs, but Mr Forshaw was doing his thang too....
Crowd-wise, I saw a mixture of people going mental (like me) and some serious chin strokers but had big grins on their faces....
Good crowd I thought ... for London anyway ;-)
Not as good as oop North though, we fucking av it up here like ....

here is the problem i think.... it all stems from the common player hater trait that certain people are born with. you got two classes of music that touch a common definition for catagorization.... but are completely different. this topic is like sibling rivalry when your a little kid, and that is the basis of the argument, childish. and its got nuthin to do with location. why bring that up? say what you mean. dont coat your vogel vs surgeon or dave clarke arguements by hiding it under a weak generalization of where the dudes were once based from. gunjack that wasnt a rant you spouted off either, it was penned up sexual frustration.
so you attack the closest relative that isnt quite related to you cause you want to be the important genre. and as it turns out, nobody cares....

its just that we dont believe in too much slagging- of anyone, really
i guess a lot of people on this board like cristian's music, not everyone here rates it as their favourite though.
cristian isnt successful enough to warrant the verbal kicking, and i cant really understand why someone who doesnt know him or ever have to come into contact with his music or anything that much wants to be so mean.

Music-wise Blackpool has it all mate. It's very epiciliepticipicic, ranging from the more acoustic vocally stuff comin' outta Maggie May's Showbar, to the Retro-Wurlitzer beatz from the top o'tower.
I remember playing with a producers bits quite a few times in a house near the music epicentre of da Pool (when he lived there). A producer that some people on this board may know very well. A producer who I haven't heard from for about a week and is not returning my fucking emails......ahem.....

Mr. Vogel: please keep on puting out thing's that doesn't sell - they are so good. Like a track from Busca that Mrs. Casal played last Friday here in Warsaw. Went to the club that I go to like 2 times a year and music she played convinced me that majority of the crowd that left when I could finally shake my old ass without any drinking, simply were unable to get it. They do not matter to me.
Hmm, what's that unpleasant taste on my tong?
As to Surgeon - have heard 'Screw the roses' once and quite liked it but not that much to spend any money on it.
Sheridan
16th March 2002, 17:39
the whole thing is fucking stupid. for me music is
communication. every artist is trying to communicate
their own thing. why not check it all out? I personally love
the whole birmingham sound, as I also love the brighton
sound. it just depends on what I am into at the moment.
sometimes I need to listen to that raw gritty shit like regis
and female (very underated in my opion). and then there
are times I like to sit back and listen to vogel or lidell.
in the end the same goal was met, an artist created
something as a means to communicate with me. I listened
to it and I am better for it. I think if you listen to only one
style you get tunnel vision and it is hard to even understand
and evaluate other people's postion. to paraphrase emma,
life is too short. so why spend time hating and also why
spend time only listening to one style. but I think if it really
came down to it and there was a huge techno battle royal
Adam Beyer would kick everyones ass just cause he is so big.
