sorry german crew but i have watched a bit of german tv and its pretty shit
one of the few things we can be proud of here in the uk is our tv which is QUITE COOL
if you ever visit the uk you need to watch it a bit
im a latchkey kid [translation: my parents worked until after 6 pm..i had to make my own fun after school which generally involved the tv]

@Emma
What German TV stations have you watched?I must agree that many, many are shit. Last week we had two James Bond movies at the same time. That’s really a big mismanagement from the TV stations. Sometimes there are 3 or 4 god movies at the same time and sometimes none and i hate the fucking commercial breaks, so I am prefering the non-private stations for looking movies. But unfortunateley the good movies in the non-private stations are too late in the night.

yeah german tv sucks most time. the only thing what you can watch is arte and some special shows. (n.e.r.d. live with ray cookes as moderator....he´s getting old)
(the only thing i´ve seen in britain was psychic tv lol)
the report about the sms was really stupid. they showed only those plasticravers. but i don´t like big raves and this looked really like a stupid amusement park.
the most stupid sentence was something like:"...and the utilities for hash smokers have much developed."
and they said it like it was techno´s fault.

yeah, german tv sucks bigtime, but australian tv is even worse.
we used to have sky channel here when i was a kid. i always used to get up every saturday at 6 am to watch fun factory...loved it, although i didn´t understand a word:)

i claim that watching english cartoons as a little boy, helped me picking up the english language quite easily later in school. it kinda ingrained subconsciously...at least i hope so.
deccard

i think watching movies in the original language still helps a lot as a grown up to learn the language.
aleks
19th October 2002, 11:00
of course... and they are way better than the dubbed versions.
as for australian tv, i forgot the only good thing is steve irwin the crocodile hunter...he rocks lol

dead man walking is really an exceptional movie. i didn´t understand a word of those texan (gelaber) talk. their dialect implied that they must live on a separated island and must have gone their own evolutional way :)

i wish i could receive German TV in the UK...i have watched only one film in German (pi - the movie) and it was fantastic! It is not a german movie. I am trying to learn German, and I don't hear enough speaking...i read and read all the time, but this doesn't help me master the language.
Some english tv is mind-numbing rubbish, written for the vegetation and control of adults, slowly turning their brains to a jelly, programming them with acceptable social norms, feeding the propoganda of the times to the masses. Soaps feed the gossip mongers hunger for nosy knowledge of other folks intimacies...it's a nose-bag of social sickness. (imo) turn on-tune in-cop out.
I sometimes watch tv - the last thing i watched was BBC2 learning zone - history of electronic music - and then some info progs on databases ... *g*

why you wanna learn german? if i would be an ausländer lol
i wouldn´t learn german. not many people speak german in our world.
but your german is good anyway.
btw you can get german translated movies with some filesharing progs or certain binary newsgroups...
one of the better original german movies is das experiment.

when i was young we didn't have cable tv. only 4 channels and later 6...so i didn't watch too much tv.
i nearly know none of the old cartoons which was (when i was little) a shame sometimes.

i have a friend returning home to freiberg at end Novembre....
he will bring me back some german vhs movies, i just have to tell him what i want!
so i asked him for a copy of das experiment (which he says is very good)
can u recommend others? films i like are avant-garde, intelligent thrillers/mystery/ science fiction, and contemporary (but not extrem violence - am too sensitive to watch those)
anatomie? what's that about?
(oh yeah - i don't want to watch porn either *hrhr* - not enough speaking in them for me ;) )
wheezer
19th October 2002, 14:46
too bad you said not too violent, otherwise I would've said "funny games", although that is austrian, it is one of the most thrilling movies I've ever seen...
jukka
19th October 2002, 14:53
yeah this movie is great....but it is really a bit violent.
invisibleplanet
19th October 2002, 15:02
hmm - extrem violence for me is the rape scene in Kubrick's Clockwork Orange.
I can handle 'normal' violence such as the violence in Pulp Fiction, or the Violence in Trainspotting, or Resevoir Dogs, however, as i seek to hear German in order that i might dare to speak it, i feel myself that i should watch films with good dialogue :)
wheezer
19th October 2002, 15:08
well I dunno, I've seen a lot more violent movies in terms of what you actually see, but this is one of those rare cases where the way the story is told just runs shivers down my spine... ok, I did watch the thing on acid in a movie theater the first time around so I may be a bit biased...

sms is great. i was there for the third time this year, and i really enjoyed it everytime. it's not like over big raves like nature one or so. they always had a great musicselection
and plasticravers are everythere i'd say, thats something we have to live with, haven't we
deccard
20th October 2002, 16:01
the musicselection might be ok but i prefer clubs or smaller open airs.
...but that funboatstuff seemed really strange.
it really looked very commercial for me. i can only compare that to the fusionfestival close to berlin which is more my taste.
less expensive and shows more heart for art and music.

the corect term for scharf is"sharp"
...........means so, a döner is sharp.with lots of pepper or other.......
:)

hmm more like hot/spicy in this context, a sharp döner sounds a bit weird, though not as a weird as a spicy vogel lol

Tatort is a German criminal movie with typical German characters. Kind of funny sometimes, because the commissioners are funny and very own.

you have to see '23'. one of the best german movies i've ever seen. it's about karl koch, the first german hacker who does hacks for the KGB and went paranoid by the illiminatus. it tooks place at the wonderful city 'Hannover'. :)
when we speak of german TV, we have to speak of crime-movies. we've got a long tradition here. things like 'schimanski', 'derrick' and 'tatort'. the privat stations have also a lot of crime, but they're not that good. fluffy stories and lot's of 2nd class action.
i also like 'stubbe'. it's not so fucked up, but they have good actors and also very tensioning stories.
another goood movie is "das leben ist eine baustelle"

Sorry my German is practically non-existent, but you're kidding aren't you?
By döner do you mean Donor Kebab - as in a nan or pitta bread with meat and chillis and salad in it... and there's a club in Germany with a shop behind the dancefloor - that's crazy...
deccard

nah not a club with kebab but at the sms festival.
but a club with falafel would be cool.
