I love them - the perfect bloody mary should have:

A healthy measure of vodka
a tiny measure of white sherry
Tomato juice (V8 makes a wicked alternative)
a wedge of lime, squeezed first
celery salt
cracked black pepper
worcester sauce (not too much mind - brown marys are a no-no)
tabasco sauce (to taste)

Utter yum.... and great for a sunday breakfast....

Your ingredients are spot on.

That is exactly the way my good lady mixes one up.

Tasty!

A proper bloody mary is heaven... they're v good made with citron or peppar absolut voddy... i use lemon, not lime, but i can see lime would be ok... you can substitute port for the sherry for a richer flavour... also a bit of horseradish alongside the other spices is really good (it looks kind of weird as it makes the drink 'speckly', but it tastes just grand)

If you like it more spicy you can use sangrita picante as substitute for normal tomato juice.
And I wouldn't add sherry brandy, port or any other alcoholics than vodka - but if you like it that way...

wow... however good the bloody mary may be, there's far too much preparation involved for my liking. i want a drink to be something i can pour into a glass and get at immediately. or, even better, simply swig from the bottle. instant gratification all the way for me, i'm afraid

the icing on the cake is a slice of celery with it. gives you the false feeling of actually doing something healthy to your body :)

@ladytron

bottled brown goo. kinda spicy though not as much as tabasco. it never sprang to my mind to use it in a bm but it seems to make sense.

welcome, so you either buy something containing according to the wikipedia "... made with vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, water, chilli peppers, soy sauce, pepper, tamarinds, anchovies, onions, shallots, cloves and garlic." or you mix that up for yourself and probably end up in a hospital with a severe food poisoning ;)

Ladytron

hahaha :-)

my english is so bad when it comes to food and kitchen stuff. i had to google few words you mentioned.

if i ever try this i'll let you know... phoning you from the hospital

I do like a bit of Hendersons Relish, but I wouldn't consider it a substitute for Worcestershire Sauce.

Henderson's Relish isn't nearly as strong, you need loads - to my mind it's more like (or indeed exactly the same as) Steak Sauce that you get in the US.

Only Lee and Perrins can be Worcestershire sauce.

Bloody Mary
The Bloody Mary, one of the world's most popular cocktails was created in 1921, when Fernand Petiot, the barman at the fashionable 'Harry's New York Bar' in Paris added Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce to that glorious combination of vodka and tomato juice.

Yeah, big tom is some wicked shit. And it's from Suffolk, made by the James White Juice Co. Got something mad like 50 spices in it and it creates very decent bloody marys. Rather spicy m'dears, and it's gorgeous on its own as well. Shame it's so hard to get hold of outside the eastern counties....
