Condolences to anyone who's been involved or had family/friends involved in this terrible incident....hits a bit harder since it's so much closer to home...one thing I hope is this isn't the catalyst for the aus government to jump in head first with the US (not that they weren't going to eventually) without thinking...
anyway
peace and all that

as if there was an independent investigation, as if there would EVER be such a thing. as if we'd ever know what's behind that and what really happened from a neutral investigator...

the tendency in the media is the same here, they all learn from the yellow press, creating opinions instead of reporting facts. yesterday i saw a guy (an 'expert') on tv, when being asked if there were risks of further violence in south east asia he replied : "well, in the asian world the state has traditionally a strong position, not hesitating much before taking action... we often criticise that in china but for this reason terrorists will have a hard time in asia..." - i couldn't believe that no-one in the audience protested - or at least laughed cynically. that guy was suggesting police states using oppression, torture etc. (like all over asia indeed) as an effective measure against terrorism - and the audience seemed to think 'well, that proves less civil rights means less violence... perhaps it'd be worth a try here as well ?'

well yeah, they are counting up really only the aussie death toll over here.....not really saying much about other countries, but they are saying it (the attack) was directed a lot at australians because the bar that exploded was a major hangout for aussie tourists, and a lot of football teams were on their end of season trips there....they are saying it's a muslim group who have some links to bin laden...whether they are proof or speculation who knows..

i used to live in bali. the bomb went off on the corner of poppies st. and jalan leigan, the busiest area for young people. the bombing took out two nightclubs: Patti's pub and the Sari club.... i had five friends who lived upstairs from the sari club. probably all dead. all are missing and there has been no contact. now i have to work at my job today, smiling politely at the japanese students, trying to teach english, but all i can think about is jumping on a fucking plane and going to look for my friends!

life fucking sucks sometimes.

i just keep asking myself who are the real benefitters of this bali-bombing? isnt it a strange timeing...just some days before the us plans to hit saddam hard...they are in need of acceptance and some bad muslim-terror action should fit ok...i mean it´s just some tourists somewhere...good deal?

well well conspiracy...thoughts....in and out....

Nobody says anything about any locals getting hurt or killed. I don't think all 180 were tourists, that's just impossible...
These people live off tourism and now they're screwed!
