Just wanted to get a general feel for what all you producers like to use, newer digital/computer stuff or older analog synths? I personally have a love for the analog and have a pro-1 and a chroma polaris in my stash, but i've also got a nord modular (which is digital but the concept is based on analog) and a sampler & i only use a computer for sequencing and my comps actually produce no sounds. however i am trying to learn super_collider... so i kind of stand half and half in each domain. what about you guys?

"I personally have a love for the analog and have a pro-1 and a chroma"

So let's see how this works!??????

no, not a crumar.. a rhodes chroma polaris. BIG difference. the polaris is basically an arp design with a rhodes name on it. but don't be bashin crumars though; they are built like crap but they make some sweet sounds if you know what you're doing. my friend's got a crumar performer and there are some lush strings and organs hiding under that crumbling facade. if you find 'em for cheap they are well worth it.

It's a different trade altogether.... I never laid hands on anything
analog and don't feel a particular urge to do so...

I'm such a lazy bastard, I like to sit in front of my computer and have everything ready with a mouseclick, I know it's sad....
But I love the modular synth concept (micro modular, Reaktor), as long as I don't have to jump around messing with real cables

I saw Cristian Vogel a couple of months ago with Super Collider, in one of the songs he used a GNAT (http://www.synthmuseum.com/edp/edpgnat01.jpg), strange little synth, and to make it sound the way he wanted, he actually had to shake it!
Not the kind of thing you'd wanna do to tune your laptop :D

>>piscaries: curious what you think of super_collider, I'm on a pc so I can't try it out.

@piscaries, I once had a crumar bit01... yeah, looks like a plastic toy - but can make some real cool sounds!.
I´m glad I´ve had a lot of different analogue synths. It gives you a great view on the analogue structure and sound. -also if you want to change later on. Normally you´ll feel great love for one or two oldies and then you would compare both digital and analogue technology in your setup!!

:D

I am just starting to get into production. I love the sounds of analog, but for me I don't have the money or the patience to hunt down old analog gear. I am getting ready to set up a small studio for myself that will be based around digital, using a hardware synth, and then pro tools on my computer.

hmm... try find a Korg Ms-10 or Ms-20... always fun! Also the yamaha Cs-20 is real great - and ofcourse the Seq. Pro One!!!

A nord Lead could be a cheap way too,... and offers you some pads and strings you can´t make on analogue gear!

The modular...hehe... (will be delivered to my place tomorrow or friday) - so I can´t really tell you about that - but I´ve heard it should be great!?? hahahah
lol

Anyway - good luck!

the modular is amazaing, but theres already another thread about that. i liked the ms-20, but it was too dirty for me and i could never ever ever get rid of the modulation all the way and it drove me absolutely fucking mad. i'd get a nice sound and then -bloop- something would fall off and the modulation cycle would start all over again (that's with the mod dial all the way down). all i could do to mask it was crank the mod all the way up ben then the sound gets so ring-modded that it no longer sounds good. harrumph. i do also like the moog mg-1 (it's actually better than the rogue fyi).
