so, being that several of us don't like some of the holidays on offer, lets create some new ones. i'll start.
from this day on let November the 3rd be known as "Devolution day", where on this day, we let a monkey run the world.
No, thats a crap holiday too.
Anyone else?

my friend jen has turned new years into a slightly modified holiday. new years eve is now the day we exchange presents as opposed to christmas. it's a cool party she'll throw and their will be dumb fun games to play that you have to do in order to get a present. the presents are nothing fancy, cheap dollar store stuff. plus she created what she calls 'baby new year'. she picks a name for the baby, this years name was Geordi (or Jordi) which means farmer. as she believes what you plant in your own personal gardern is what you will grow. plant hate you receive hate, love you receive love, etc. she finds a baby doll and decorates it and puts the baby on display at the party. then we all write on a piece of paper what you liked and hated about the year past and what you hope the new year will be like. then we burn them. I know it sounds a bit camp, but it really is a great and original way to ring in the new year.

sounds good.
Not sure if you have been in Scotland for New Years before? That is probably the best holiday i've ever seen.

can november 4th be...
europeans not constantly bleating about america/bush day
i realise this would be tough... maybe it can be a one minute silence kinda deal
if we manage it, i'll happily play guy for the day after

I have!! I was at sterling castle for hogmany (spell check) on new years 2002/2003. I had a fucking blast. great music, great drink, and an awesome fireworks display right over the castle. top 3 best new years ever.

sorry emef, Devolution Day is an american holiday and we'll thank you Europeans to keep to your own holiday business.
no seriously, it can't be any worse then bleating on about anything else on the board. if your tired of it then start a thread and lets talk about something else.

oh right... taking a second look at your post i now realise you were talking 'humourously' about george bush.
i took your post to be purely about having a monkey run the world.
an actual monkey
an idea i really rather liked.

emefs avatar reminded me of the stonecutters episode of the simpsons when homer is found trying to get mokeys to re-enact the american civil war.

my best mate susie has her own holiday she makes us celebrate - 'susemus' - as her birthday is so close to christmas and new year, we all have to celebrate her for about 5 days... always ends up being a laugh - takes the pressure of the stress that is christmas anyhow...
on my own airhead tangent, I'd like there to be "Handbag Day", where every handbag, in every shop you can imagine is free - a one-day bonanza, in which I would knock myself out.

How about a national do no work day. I'll get right on making that an official holiday here now.

This holiday appears to be spreading fast then. Good work everyone. I suppose I'd better get back to playing ADOM at work eh? Before I got home at some indeterminite time, probably one o'clock. I might as well save money on lunch by going home for it.

Reminds me of Pillbox flyers, the one where Santa is giving a lecture to a room full of santa wanna be's who are all holding pills in their hands.

we have a holiday like that. it's called labor day. sadly, if you work in retail or the service industry, you still get to work.
