Hey mac users,
Anyone know if i can upgrade a G3/400 pismo to a g4? or anywhere where info on upgrades is available?
or should i bite the bullet and buy a new machine? imac? emac? or power tho? any good benchmark / comparison sites?

Wow, what a timely topic. Today I sent my cpu back to powerLogix because they forgot to change a resistor on my upgraded pismo.

PowerLogix (http://www.powerlogix.com) offers a $300 upgrade for Pismo owners. They desolder your g3/400 chip and add a g4/500 (actually, most run @ 550). For $300, it's an excellent deal. I wish I could post specs, but alas! mine is nonfunctional right now.

I thought the proccessor chips for macs were in zif sockets, i.e. no de-soldering??

powermacs yes, powerbooks no. the pismo is the last model of black powerbook before the tibooks...
