Sherman Filterbank

Does anybody here use a Sherman Filterbank? I've been messing around with one but so far I just seem to be distorting anything I put into it. Anybody got any tips on what kind of signal to put into it, any personal settings that sound good?

that's kind of a vague description of what's going on. it could be any number of things, ranging from too hot of an input signal to something as simple as your not understanding how to use it and leaving the VCA overdrive turned up... :)
