50 children escape from Russian school

01 September 2004 10:11
It is reported that 50 children have escaped from a school in southern Russia where armed attackers had taken up to 400 people hostage.

According to the Itar-tass news agency, the children had hidden during the initial attack, and fled the school when gunfire abated.

The attack came on the first day of term in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia near Chechnya.

scary init?
first the election day offensive

so much for containing the conflict
putin has built his political rep on stability
this could seriously damage him.

now there R about 150 hostages at the moment... and about 17 terorrists there in school.

one of the terorrists been killed and 2 soldiers been wounded...

as russian web news says - there are injured and dead people among the hostages already.

FUCKIN POLITICS! mZFuckin' DIRTY DIRTY busyness!
Putin was the KGB & then FSB officer in his past... how can he know the meaning of the words - compassion or charity....

Well the terrorists claimed they would kill like 50 children for each terrorist killed and would kill them all if Russian troops attempted to storm the place so things may turn to shit there very shortly.

I think this might turn out very bad, as going after innocent childern is going to do nothing but make every single Russian in the country very pissed off with the terrorists. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of Czechnians showed up dead after this filled with bullets form Russian black market weapons.

this is tragic:

Soldiers were seen carrying children covered in blood from the school where sustained gunfire and explosions were heard.

A Russian radio station has reported that 158 children have been taken to hospital.

Authorities have said special forces were forced to act in view of developments around the school in southern Russia.

The militants inside the school had demanded independence for the Russian Republic of Chechnya.

Several of the 26 hostages released yesterday said there were well in excess of 1,000 people being held inside the school, far higher than an earlier estimate of 330.

sad

The sad thing really is, what else we the Russians supposed to do? If they gave into the demands of the terrorists they would have rescued the 200 kids, plus the adults, but next week they would have to deal with two terrorist groups taking 400 kids between them, then 800 and so on. They really do need to stamp a foot down and say fuck off you evil pricks, stop targeting the innocent parties and at least go after military targets. I don't think a single terrorist act commited by any country has yet produced a caving in to demands made.

They will target civilians because they are defenseless. It is a lot easier for them. I would normally sympathise with a tiny state wanting to break away from a larger nation but this is evil and they are targeting innocents not involved in their struggle.
I think the Russian Government wont give Chechnya independence because it makes them look weak and all the other peripheral states will want to break away too.

too sad/angry to think about the politics at the moment. sure worse happens all over the world all the time (sudan, etc) - but as Russia is one of my fave places that i've visited this is making me very sad.

as if the russians aren't doing that either with fighting against all the states who want to become independent!
i don't defend what the terrorists do there, but i see that for them its just eye for an eye-that wont help anyone obviously, but its the same with the palestinian:
what the fuck else can they do? they are in a depressing situation for ages now and are going mad at some point. quite normal i suggest.

the people to blame here are not only the terrorists but more putin and his nonsensepolicy of trying to keep old russia together and all the western governments who are only blaming the terrorists but saying not one word to who cruel the russian soldiers are acting in these independencewars (and its reported what is going on there, in parts at least). htese are wars against partisans and therefore are always leading to wars agains civilians (not to say that any war includes killed civilians. only bush may believe the opposite-in public)

and putin that fucking majorcunt did almost the same thing like last time.
i don't even want to think about how many childrens were killed because of that action
jesus christ:(

i get what you are saying, i know its not the same as ireland, but i support them over england`s position... and to be honest i support the chechens position even if they are holding 'innocents' hostage

right now its 646 wounded and they expect the number of dead to go much higher than the 150 already reported.

Perosnaly I can't support the Chechnens or the Irish in what they do since I don't agree with the basic principle which fuels the war for these sides, independance from a larger nation. I think the world would be a fuck of a lot better off if people would stop fighting to protect outdated over-inflated senses of pride in their national identity and just get on with living together all in world side by side.

I mean lets face, it's never really hurt the good ol' USA by combining the power of several independant states into one homogenus super power. Imagine what it would be like in a free world where everyone was watched over by the same set of laws and the same aid giving to all.

i still meet scots regularly who are unhappy (to say the least) at being part of what is basically an english nation, and when i used to live in wales i dj`d regularly at a club (silhoettes) opposite the localwelsh club (clwb ifor bach) where i used to have to walk past the weekly gauntlet of welsh people chanting for the english to be out (of wales)
i think a lot of people care about their little bits of land

having seen the recent news, its pretty gutting to see it turn this way agian... why does the russian nation care so much if they control chechnya?

not supporting these rebels/terrorists (depending on who's naming them) does not mean you dont support chechnya's independence. we dont really know yet who they are. the IRA at least was pretty unified (from what i understand) so at least you can deal with them.
